Yeah you canโt develop a champion if he doesnโt have the talent, but you can certainly not get someone who has the necessary underlying talent not to perform to their potential.
We have seen many examples of that - even under Sheedy. Cupido would be a famous example
But what was rare under Sheedy has become commonplace over the last decade.
I dont think it is.
The list has a young core of talent to build on we just need more

Cupido is a great example because while you could make the case that the EFCโs development wasnโt the best, he also failed to develop to his full potential at Brisbane when they were the best team in the comp. He had his best year with us so I think its more his lack of self motivation that restricted his career rather than either clubs development failure.
What I always find telling is that we actually started declining as soon as Dodo took over. In his last draft for us Judkins drafted 4 players who went on to play 100+ games for the club. He also managed that from the 1994 draft & fell just short with 3 players over 100 & Moorcroft on 94 games from the 96 draft. He then did it again in the 99 draft for Collingwood. In the 26 years that followed dodo never once achieved a draft haul like that. It wasnโt development, it was recruitment.

Not every player in the team needs to a surper star you know.
Most top sides a few and the rest is made up of trades,FA,role players etc
Hawks list is made up of a dozen players from other teams

All the best sides arent filled with top 5 picks. We had access to the most top 30 picks out of any team the last few years.
Recurting,picking the right players,developing them and good coaching plays a big part.
Look at North a gazzilon high picks and still โ โ โ โ and you know why their player development sucks donkeys balls
Why do you keep bringing up North FFS!
They have drafted poorly and botched it big time
