Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 4, August 2024)

I don’t know that AFL experience is essential. At FC in the late 60s it was George Harris (businessman/dentist) and Ron Barassi. At Richmond it was Tom Hafey and Graeme Richmond.

What is essential is a coach who sees a path and has the will to follow it. Personally I don’t think we have that.

You definitely need some of the board to have experience at a high level but you don’t want the board to be full of them. Need a healthy mix IMO

IIRC one of Ken Fraser’s sons played for Essendon and went on to be an Umpire.

Mark Fraser was pretty good for a goal on the run.

Amazing how much faith the punters have in a board who have largely elected themselves for 20 odd years of absolute ■■■■■.

Only fair they rewarded him, given how much support they got from the maggots over the years.

It’s no certainty that the Board would be the slightest bit better with a different method for choosing it.

Frankly I don’t give a damn how the board is chosen so long as there are at least a few strong-minded, clear-sighted people on it who can convince the others to follow a clear path.

I don’t think we have that.

I’m on auto renew so never cancelled. I wanted to see if I got a response and whether or not we improve doesn’t change the fact that Vozzo showed what sort of leader he is by taking the time to call.

I will stay a member and I always had a lot of faith in Scott. Having spoke with Vozzo I feel the right people are in the right places and we have a chance to improve…how quickly and how much I can’t answer but gee Dudoro has done a number on our list, so it won’t be a finals win next year.

Not particularly except to say we weren’t helping Tsatas and Shiel was not the future, he agreed with both.

He asked how many players from the 17, 18, 19 drafts we still had on the list. I didn’t know off the top of my head but didn’t think it was many and obviously no first rounders. He said that is really hurting us now.

So I guess his assessment is similar to what a lot of people say on here. We topped up when we shouldn’t have, we didn’t properly assess the needs on our list and drafted the wrong players. He mentioned the need for talent, now does that suggest he does believe we have enough…he didn’t say that but read into it what you like.

Have the Dawks got it more right than us? You would have to say yes on current form. It appears they have identified a style and type of player to play that style and have advanced quickly. They didn’t have to deal with poor culture, lack of leadership and clearly had a better list manager than us.

Vozzo and Scott have had 2 years and the place is a mess….we will just have to trust they are the right guys and need time to fix the horrible mess that Campbell, Brasher and Dudoro have left us in.

When I asked how a list manager could keep his job when he hasn’t been able to build a successful list in 20 years……he said he agreed and that he was a nice guy but if he had that record he shouldn’t have kept his job………that said a lot for me……he wants to make ppl accountable, he expects performance and he sees that has not happened before he arrived.

I think it’s incredible that a CEO has said these sorts of things to a simple member.

Phone call was 16 minutes (according to,y phone). He answered my questions directly and I felt honestly. I don’t think he gave away any trade secrets and he never said I can’t go there, admittedly I was respectful with my questions, I didn’t want to put him on the spot and knew what response I would get if I asked.

For example I spoke about a list manager keeping his job despite 20 years of no success, he said he wouldn’t have kept his if that was his record….he never named names….but nor did he say no comment.

Very down to earth……I had specifically mentioned Zane Littlejohn as a possible assistant coach in my email and Vozzo referenced him in the call saying he was contracted at the Dawks but knew of him , heard good things about him and he has a good reputation in AFL circles and he was the type of person we would be keeping an eye on.

Not how I remember it, Mark was lightning fast but an average kick on the run. He didn’t slow down to steady himself before kicking.

Nice to have some honesty for a change………we all think Tsatas was played out of position and all think the Dud has ruined our football club

The high ups within the club cab see the holes and now it’s about taking action to rectify the mistakes of past administrations.
The proof will be in the results.

Sounds like a good example of self back protecting to me but maybe I am too cynical.

After all, why would a notoriously silent CEO suddenly want to chat to a poster on BB who would go onto sing his praises as a result?

When’s the Creighton and AGM?

I think we are all cynical…how could you not be after the last 20 years. That aside, it says something that he bothered

You saying he should have told a more intelligent member?
