Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 4, August 2024)

who knew wearing a cap has become so difficult

I have to laugh, about Essendon Supporters in their late 20’s talking about the glory days of 2002-2009…… when we were good, and not sh*t like we are now.

Those of us who are older could see the club in decline after the 2001 Grand Final…. And pinning all our hopes to the likes of Jay Neagle, Jason Laycock, and Ricky Dyson.

Ahhh the good ol’ days!

Once we recruited Camporeale, Allan and Murphy the glory days were over.

I feel like the club never recovered from the comeback game against Norf late 2001. I know thats ridiculous. But its been a slow decline into hell ever since to be honest.

It was like the last dying breath of a great club.

Sorry BigA, I know a lot of these ancient old legal people, and most of them have very closed minds and have no concept of anything progressive, except for choosing a good Shiraz. These are the same people who advised EFC to cave in to the AFL over the saga.

Anthony Howard is probably a fine bloke, but “connections “ in business and in Government are not going to win us games of footy. At 72, he should be living near a beach and relaxing.

Muir is also an old fossil who has done nothing on the EFC Board

Is true we traded the pick to Richmond for that pick

You are correct sir, forgot where we got that 4th from

The only marketing experience he had was marketing himself. He worked a number of roles including as a player agent but he was not and is not a marketing expert.

^^THIS^^

I’m not sure I can remember a single game since then, save for a couple in 2016.

For the right reasons anyway… there’s certainly more than a few “shame file” games I can recall.

It’s been a farking dismal 20+ years.

Prior to joining Essendon, Campbell worked for Dynamic Sports and Entertainment Group and global sports marketing company Octagon. He has significant commercial and sports management experience, as well as a background in marketing and commercial strategy consulting.

Off the clubs website backnin 2014

we’ve actually been in decline since 1996

2000 flag was just papering over the cracks

How so?

That was definitely the thoughts of the Board back in 1996-1999, who were trying to sack Sheedy.

I hope the same fate awaits Collingwood after their comeback win against North this season.

Yet the board had no idea and Sheedy was bringing through a new crop during 97-98.

I remember being at the games in 98 and thinking we are building again here. I haven’t felt the same way since.

2000 flag was fine. We were in decline from the first inter club practice match of 2001. Which we lost.

Yea it was clear to me part way through the season we looked banged up. To say it started in 96 is interesting.

We beat North Melbourne in round 2, in 1999……
I remember thinking, “f*ck! We are the real deal”.
