A half decent optician would’ve done that!!!
This doesn’t sound like anything specific but it is classic Merge Records / Superchunk style business. Killer.
Coldplay actually pay all the artists that they rip off. Except Pavement. I know for a fact they have not paid Pavement.
So you’re saying they’ve walked all over Pavement…?
The Here/Yellow mash up on youtube is actually kinda cool and makes Coldplay listenable for a few minutes. Not a rip off per se, but Shiver too always just sounded like someone trying to do a parody of Jeff Buckley. I don’t think that band has an original element to any aspect of their sound, writing or production. It’s just the whitest, blandest music ever made.
JD Souther openly admits he loved Roy Orbison, so this is more a homage’ than a ripoff.
He nails the whole deal- arrangement, vocals , the classic drumbeat and the lyrics of the lovelorn man.
But I always thought it was an Orbison cover when I was younger.
And this is why most new music is ■■■■ you will know what this sounds like without me even posting it…but I will
I mentioned this in the music you’ve been listening to thread at the time, but while this doesn’t sound like any particular song, and if you ignore the overproduction, the voice (at some times more than others) and guitar reminds me very much of Hoodoo Gurus.
But given my last post in here, I wouldn’t be surprised if no-one else can hear it.
If it was a tad faster, you’d notice it even more
I’ve read somewhere about that vocal ‘trick’ being called ‘quaying’ or ‘yarling’. I can’t stand it. Creed the biggest culprits, despite Vedder starting it.
I know the synth phrase you’re on about, and I’ve not made that connection before. Will have to play them side by side now!
I actually quite like Eddie Vedder doing that- but most others don’t sound as natural. Tim Minchin adds it in and mocks the style perfectly…
Yep - love it all the same!
