Literally have not heard this in years, and giving it a fresh listen I’m stunned by how underappreciated The Kinks are, if not critically then certainly in popular culture.
I can hear people arguing that point already, but when people talk about great British bands, The Kinks are not high on the list. Beatles, Stones, Floyd, Zep, Queen etc. and then maybe, and oh yeah, The Kinks were good.
Their DNA runs through Britpop. Blur…I mean…it probably goes a bit beyond ‘influence’ with Blur.
There’s a piano sound in here that sounds exactly like a bit from Supergrass’s Alright.
Anyway, what a cool and catchy and clever little song. Welcome back to the wim high rotation.

I agree with everything you say, but their sound is very sloppy and their voices are ordinary at best.
