Songs you haven't heard in years (Part 1)

Burn for You has fond memories for anyone who remembers the 1984 GF as Channel 7 used it on the promo for the game in tge week leading up to the game.

If we’re doing favourite INXS songs, these would be my two preferred tracks. The first has an icy synth vibe and a glorious transition from bridge to chorus. The second is just a great track… a fantastic example of Nick Launay’s production and from that part of the 80’s before music turned horrible for a few years… While INXS were still capable of a few great tracks here and there, they kinda lost me from Kick… too sleek and too much funk emphasis thereafter for me and not enough of the angular pop/rock. The Swing was the perfect amalgamation of the early and what came later.

Fair to say, if there’s no Andrew Farriss, there’s no INXS.
Really like ā€˜To Look at You’.

Sounds like Nick Launay was in high demand in the 80’s.
Rob Hirst of the Oils has mentioned him often in various Docos/Interviews.

Well, he produced three of my favourite Oz albums within the space of 18m…
INXS - The Swing
Models - Pleasure Of Your Company
Oils - 10…1
He was only in his early-mid 20’s at the time too…

He also cut his teeth engineering some Public Image Ltd, Siouxsie & The Banshees and XTC singles I really liked a bit earlier…

He also did Big Pig’s Bonk which I didn’t like much at the time, but which sounded good to me when I heard a song from it recently. When you think about it - given the huge drum sounds that were his calling card - he was absolutely the logical producer for them.

By the time he did Oils’ Earth and Sun and Moon album his (and their) boundary-pushing and arty production style had largely gone and his methods became far more mainstream.

Any decent House get together in early 80’s had Inxs Don’t Change in the first set of songs on side A compilation Mix tape.
To get the party started!

Fantastic sound.

A good night had this…

Locating the record the next morn…
Usually mixed in with a mountain of other EP’s of the time…

The Mentals were a great singles band for a long time. Naturally, they had their biggest hits with their worst material.

This one was a ripper…

This led very nicely into Crowded House…
Ironically, CH later did a version of this… which wasn’t a patch on this version…

You’re clearly not a fan of ā€œGuardians of the Galaxyā€ if you haven’t heard that song for years.

Definitely - really like Don’t Change - such a simple song, but a ripper.

This version wouldn’t get any parties started, but I like it also.

Hot take… forget Down Under or Who Can It Be Now, this is Men At Work’s best track, and by some distance…

Best: Overkill
Favourite: Hard Luck Story (lol, you’d love the brass on both!)

edit: ā€˜At least there’s pretty lights’ is the most wonderful line, and beautifully delivered.
