I was a huge Dylan fan for a long time, but since about 1990 his voice has been absolutely farked. That Johnny Cash clip is fantastic. Must have been mid-fifties or thereabouts. I love that Dylan used a double bass in his version and not an electric one.
I always remember the Late Show taking the ā ā ā ā out of this band. ā something blue running down your legā. I could never understand what they were saying.
Great song. Good artist. ā ā ā ā person.
Great song
Iāll see your C W McCall and raise you a Dave Dudley:
Hot Rod Sayās Hi!
Punter To Punter had a pisstake of this song that was inspired by the bloke who drove his truck into a pub in the NT back in the 1980s. From memory, it went like this:
Well I rolled out of Alice, heading down towards Ayers Rock
I was feeling like a drink so I made a roadside stop
But the man in the bar said āNo,
Just jump in your rig and goā.
Six days on the road and Iām gonna wreck a pub tonight.
Well I drove up the road but only for half a mile
I did a u-turn, boy I was really riled
I put my truck through all of its gears
And I aimed it for that brick veneer
Six days on the road and Iām gonna wreck a pub tonight.
Well my rigās a litte old but that that donāt mean sheās slow
I planted my foot and knocked a bus right out of the road
Then I dived out of my cab
I said āServe me now ya scab!ā
Six days on the road and Iām gonna wreck a pub tonight.
Well the bullbar hit and the people really shat
As the truck roared in, the bodies they went āsplat!ā
Five dead filled me with glee
Twenty injured seriously
Six days on the road and Iām gonna wreck a pub tonight.
Well I ran into the desert and I thought about what Iād done
You know I would have kept running but I aināt no Cliff Young
I reckon the press will love it
'Cos Iāll tell 'em that a dingo done it
Six days on the road and I just wrecked my life.
