That one is basically like a Dad joke.
Shriekback’s Go Bang album is what happens when a previously good band listens to its record company. It is absolutely farking horrendous. A classic case of late 80’s overproduction…
This awful cover version gives you the idea… wailing female background vocals, cockrock guitar solos, synthetic brass stabs. And anyone who thought Barry Andrews rapping was a good idea needs to be put against the wall immediately… I hadn’t heard it for years, and I’d forgotten just how atrocious it is…
Yeah it was over. Dave Allen was gone.
Ive had a few and I dunno the band you guys are talking about, but the names ‘Barry Andrews’ and ‘Dave Allan’ both sound like names you’d make up in a panic whilst being questioned by police.
You know… Dave Allen, who was in Gang of Four, and Barry Andrews, who was in XTC, and both left to join Shriekback and… umm… none of this is helping, is it?
They certainly both sound the local heavies in a British cop drama, who hang around the local supermarket and harangue passers-by as they go in and out…
“You should go talk to that Barry Andrews tosser, guv’nor… he’s a right toerag that one, always down the Co-op causing trouble with the locals… Bet he had summat to do with it… him and that other bastard Dave Allen”
Yeah nah…
Way more the vibe I’m feeling. Excellently articulated.

Boys Don’t Cry (86 Mix) is being released digitally and physically for the first time in 40 years.
I acknowledge. Green Day is not everybody’s cup of tea.
But the haters - just skip these posts.
If not - Enjoy!
