Tears for Fears only lasted 2 albums (as tears for fears), but gee they were huge. Great production and some seriously good songwriting.
Here they are as the 19 year old front people for the band Graduate, before they decided to go all Soft Cell and OMD by existing as a duo with a rotating roster of sessionish musos.
PS - the Elvis of the song refers to Elvis Costello.
Seriously, McCartney releases this at the same time and theyād call it a return to form.
How do they do this and then nothing?
Pop is a fickle mistress.
Donāt know how many times Iāve seen BCO⦠must be well over 50. A great live band.
Any surprises in the setlist? Was this them alone or with The Models? The combined shows only allow for 10-12 songs, and their set consquently becomes a little āsafeā (i.e. the singles, not much else).
Still, their āsafeā puts many live acts to shameā¦
They were supporting Reyne ( and blew him away, quite frankly).
They did play a new, new song, (Iām not sure if was Latest Hustle or not) which wasā¦I mean, Iām not going to rush out and stream it, but the crowd vibe did not drop at all.
The rest, yes, their standard setlist.
Didnāt play Bettadaze, In The Morning, or City Flat, but I think just about all the other usual suspects.
I wouldnāt mind them playing something like Welcome To Tomorrow, or All (I assume he could still sing that), but I get what theyāre doing and they do it extremely well.
This just isnāt true, and that was incredibly disappointing.
Itās the same set list heās been playing for quite some time now.
I would have Loved it if he did the show around his first album, a couple from BARAAHP, I dunnoā¦Love Beats Me Up, White Limbo, even Louie Louie.
In fact thatās what I bought the tickets for, and I feel just a little lied to.
Probably was The Latest Hustle⦠I mean, itās OK, but hardly a career highlight. Itās basically Gimme, part 2 and the original probably did it better if Iām honest.
Iāve got a similar issue with recent BCO shows, and itās why Iāve havenāt seen them much over the past few years. Their setlist has essentially been the same. A couple of songs get changed up, but itās generally the singles from the first 3 albums and Gimme. Over the past few years theyāve toured under the auspices of āThe Singlesā, āThe Greatest Hitsā and these packages with Models and James Reyne. Call it what you will, the setlist hasnāt really changed much across any of them. Greg (on keyboards) leaving again has meant some of the backing is now sequenced, which does not lend itself to much spontaneity unfortunately. Theyāre pretty well a āheritage actā these days, and know which side their bread is buttered on, and the masses donāt go to hear deep cuts I guess⦠cāest la vieā¦
By far their most interesting shows over the last 10 years were those where they toured the Rattle It Out boxset, where they really did reach into the archives, playing songs they hadnāt played for years (including several unreleased cuts that only hardcore fans would know). The few years where Andrew De Silva replaced Ryder were an interesting curiosity just because it mixed things up a bit. He deputised pretty well, but he was no Dale.
Itās when my mum died and this song really resonated with me especially the film clip, actually helped me a lot, and I built a balsa wood aeroplane just a year before when I moved home when I was trying to get my ā ā ā ā togetherā¦anyway
Its still under the house mostly built , do remember painting the fuselage red and black, might go and dig it out, I do have to start clearing ā ā ā ā from this area
Edit here it is 28 years of cobwebs and dust, I remember going to buy a motor and remote control from the hobby shop and he said you will crash first time donāt do it..so I shelved it.
