Spring Carnival

First BIG staying race for the spring tomorrow at Caulfield. Got a mate who follows the horses religiously and says it’s getting far more difficult to judge given the international horses with little exposed form in Australia but he says a horse named Duretto is one of the better performed horses lining up tomorrow and encouraged me to have a small wager on it. I’ve duly placed a $10 each way on it at the price of $31, I figured why not.

This years CC is an awesome race with so many classy internationals and is very even and I reckon there are a stack of chances. Duretto is one of those although I think it might be better suited in the MC and enjoy the extra 800m. Also first start in Aust so you never really know how they will fare and Caulfield can test some horses who prefer the open Flemington course. Certainly Duretto has a show and will pay well.

I like Kings Will Dream, The Cliffsofmoher and Best Solution but very hard.

Meh… I was just saying that is the most uninspiring CC field for years. Wouldn’t mind a Weir win but will probably put money on something juicer. At this minute I have no idea what that will be.

This Caulfield Cup is hardly uninspiring.
It is stacked with group 1 winners and should be a belter.

So, with little confidence. Ace High.

I’ve just taken a couple of running doubles with the previous race…Thecliffersofmoher and Duretto.

And backed my nephew’s nag in Race 7…Mahamadeis.

Race 2 highlight was the horse winning and his rider coming a distance last

7 plus if you’re not near a telly and want to Winx at 5pm.

Well that was awesome.

Usual superb performance

Humidor…no cigar!

Autumn Sun was the challenger and of course it didn’t run.

What a champion - truly hope they don’t take her overseas.

Why?

Getting a bit late in the day now but I would of liked to see it run overseas against better opposition.
I mean Benbatl was the challenger today and although a good horse would not be one of Godolphins best horses by a long shot.

Anybody who caught Autumn Suns last run couldn’t help but think this thing could give Winx a race in The Plate.
Waller trains both horses however so this was never going to eventuate.
Not going to risk Winx being beaten by my star Colt.

Yep I would of like to see Winx overseas.

Yeah its not going to happen now or highly unlikely but it would have been nice to see how she fared overseas.

Actually I have a dumb question and I think I sort of know the answer but would be good to clarify.

Winx and Black Caviar have both had massive winning streaks, however they never have gotten top weight.

Is there a maximum weight a female horse can carry that is less than a male? Surely on age and form Winx should have been top weight in the Cox plate.

Top weight only applies to handicap races, so things like Melb & Caulfield Cups. The better you are, more form, means more weight in a race, to even it up.

Winx & Black Caviar raced in predominantly weight for age races, which has set amounts based on age & sex.

The Cox Plate is weight for age and if memory serves that involves the sex of the horse also.

I don’t know what the max weight a horse can be saddled with - thinking 64/65.

I know The Diva carried a big weight in its last cup win.

Not enough, according to Gai, before she was given Nelson the Doorman’s casino advice.

‘Makybe Diva carried 58 kg during the record third Melbourne Cup, 0.5 kg above the weight-for-age scale for a mare in a 3200m race…the highest-weighted winner of the Cup since Think Big won his second Melbourne Cup with 58.5 kg in 1975.’

Am I the only person who doesn’t get excited by a champion horse.
