St Essington's Day - 25 August 2023

The kick is that bad they didn’t even show a replay of it. Pity there wasn’t another angle. It’s a work of art.

At the end, the boundary ads with the smily face and thumbs-up also add to the farcical nature of this “work of art”.

These guys have got to put out of their mind that they’re kicking for a goal. Just aim at a point in the stands and focus on that, block out the posts and go bang.

Aim for a fat kid eating a pie and not watching the game.

The mitch brown shot at goal deserves a run too @Mendozaaaa

I agree that it is a stupid attempt at getting the ball to his team mate. But I question the free kick awarded against him. How could they rule deliberate when he was attempting a stupid pass. Did they give the free for stupidity? Fark the umps.

I hope they did in a way.

tbf I don’t know what else Dempsey could have done.

Bend down and use his hands? Pretty standard to ‘fumble’ it over the line.

Will still get pinged for deliberate.

The rule is such a farce.

actually put in some effort and pick the ball up.

actually put in some effort and pick the ball up.

And then would have got done for taking out the legs of the Crows player.

Or obstruction or push in the back or anything else the umpire fancied at that given moment.

? Dempsey was in front not sure how he could of got done for taking out the legs. He didnt have to go to ground to grab the ball he could of picked it up and pushed it over the line while he was being tackled.

I still dont get what he is actually trying to do in that piece of play.

I reckon he was trying to be fancy and soccer kick it to his team mate and then when his team mate would have been tackled he was going to ready himself to receive the handpass and run with the ball…but of course it all backfired in a big farken way which resulted in him making the headlines in the St. Essington’s Day blog and winning the “Essington Play Of The Week”.

The way he’s going he could have easily made the fumble look realistic enough to not be called deliberate

Sure, but if he puts his head down and leads with his shoulder within 5 meters of an opponent he’ll get called for unduly rough play

Straight after that happened, Mrs Peos turned to me and said “What happened to Dempsey, didn’t he used to be good?”

Yes. Yes he did.

I would have given the weekly Essington award to Will Hams’ effort on the wing.
