Stringer Thread II - 10,000 posts was Not Enough

A trade has been done: Balic (Freo) to Dees for pick 66

Have we done it yet?

Has he nominated us yet?

Thatā€™s just padding. Nothing to do with Stringer.

We never land a big fish.
Apart from Salmon, and that was because it was his name

Needs more reference to Silly String or Cheese Stringā€¦

That being said, weird how the Dogs want him gone. Looks like a stand up guy

ā€œ.ā€¦Stringer is fantastic when in the centre for a bounce. He is almost Judd-like with his explosive running power to get away from the congestion. Once again, he is also suited to that scenario because he is in the immediate vicinity of the ball. But when the ball exits the centre, as a midfielder in general play he just canā€™t find it. ā€¦Stringer should go into centre bounces, commit to winning the ball and then drift into the forward line straight away and let a genuine midfielder come into the play from the back of the squareā€¦ā€

I know this is just the opinion of Dermie, an ex Hawthorn hack, but it does give us a clue as to how Stringer might be used at stoppages. Not as a true midfielder, like Zerret, Parish and Hepp not only because the needs to be close to the ball to be able to get it, but he doesnt have the tank to play the way true midfielders do.

He is more likely to be a ā€œstoppage specialistā€ than a midfielder at least at forward half stoppages and centre bounces.

Dingers (check), pingers (check), Stringers (check). Mental checklist before heading outā€¦

I WANT CADDYFEST DAMMIT

I know we donā€™t like Dermie, and the feeling is mutual, but hack is something he should never be called. He was a champion player. Yeah he was dirty, but he dished it out, and he look it when it was his turn as wellā€¦

Yes, but t least I got Smooths attention when trying to be serious on the Bitz

If a few more of our players had his competitive nature we would be a much better side.

Absolutely. I think our team is a bit too nice for me. Thereā€™s no Dean Wallis/Dean Solomon/Paul Barnard/Damien Hardwick types in there. Mind you, I think it gets coached out of kids these days, or they just get overlooked at draft timeā€¦

The primary reason why I wish we would start working on bringing Toby Greene to Bomberland. #mongrel

Weā€™ve seen time and time again that Toby Greene chokes in the clutch moments though.

Is this bigger than caddyfest?

Yes for sure but the competitive nature thing goes even further than that imo. The very best players usually have a natural drive to not be beaten in any contest they go for. They donā€™t care if itā€™s a 1 on 1 or a 3 on 1, they refuse to lose the battle.

We donā€™t have any where near enough of these guys and i doubt we are bringing any in this trade period unfortunately.
