Don’t think you’ll ever have to worry about testing “positive” for anything.
He wasn’t actuall “trying to”. He’s pretending to, then when he’s brought to ground he lands on the elbow of the ball holding arm and it springs free …
Also, you can clearly see Conor attending the pain in his finger, . but he’s still watching until Howler does get put down, … and it looks like he’s expecting it to be wrapped up, . and called a ball up.
Quality review Humble.
I’m curious as to whether there actually is an ‘official’ reason why we’ve played the Swans in Melbourne only 7 times out of the last 24 games dating back to 2000?
At a guess pretty much all of those 7 games would have been when we’ve had them twice in a season too.
Think you’re likely right on that.
Managed to watch the last 10 minutes again and it’s more unbelievable the second time. Kept muttering to myself, how the ■■■■ did we lose from there at about half a dozen points.
Thought these were the pivotal moments which hurt us.
Hurley mark 1.55 remaining - goes backwards unnecessarily. Puts us under pressure.
Daniher mark 1.00 remaining - he had Bellchambers peeling away from Kennedy, a better kick would have TBC most likely out marking Kennedy.
Goddard kick out from the goal square…pffft takes 4-5 extra steps which didn’t need to be taken.
3 opportunities to ice the game and all blown. Incredible.
Great weekend to be an essendon and Melbourne storm fan.
Freak me What a ruined weekend
Gotta win our own ball at stoppages. Played almost the competitions best side at it.
Hurley is a magnificent footballer.
Joe is wow.
Harts kept buddy goalless! God our defenders and forwards deserve better from our boys in the guts.
Our midfielders are barely top 8 perhaps bottom four.(will Def be next year unless we land a big fish like Fyfe or Martin) We won’t win a final without a better midfield group even if lucky enough to play them.
Don’t blame Mick Hurley. Stopped it being an embarrassment the other way.
Harts and him forced buddy and Reid far and wide and the swans pinged 20 behinds as a result.
Zmerrett,Jobe,Hepp getting beaten by Kennedy, Parker,Jack cost us the game.
It was a decision which caused unnecessary pressure IMO. Hurley was practically flawless in the final term.
Data blown. Instaban.
Haven’t read anything. I’m still to angry.
Rohan picked up gleeson and threw him over his shoulder with one arm. I just… can’t…
Gleeson didn’t play too bad a game, but he was just rag dolled by Rohan in the goal square. He really needs to beef up a bit more. Had Hurls been there Rohan would have have been just pushed aside.
Was going to post this last night but scrapped it as I was too charged by the result. Aspects of the game aside, I expected a better experience at the SCG. No atmosphere, the 80% syd crowd hardly made a peep until the last few minutes. And I have never seen a line up anywhere near the 30 odd meters to take a leak in the men’s. Pathetic for a 34k crowd. Would take the gabba any day over that hole of a venue.
You’ve missed one that almost everyone else has also missed in Z Merrett’s clearance to Fantasia outnumbered at CHF & Grundy the outnumber. Dumb kick & worst thing is he had some time. He had to punch that kick as far as he could towards the pocket & let Fantasia use his pace to get there first. If he does that, Grundy doesn’t mark & set up the next play. In all likelihood the ball gets over the boundary or Raz wins the race & puts us two kicks up with less than a minute to go.
IMO this error is every bit as bad as Joe kicking behind two teammates to Sydney advantage corridor side (after a beautiful defensive mark), Hurley & Kelly pinning us into our own back pocket giving Sydney a chance to flood one side of the ground, Goddard’s kick in & Fantasia letting Rampe run into that stoppage at the end. Just how does anyone explain all those brain explosions?
Anyone that suggests it was “a loss we had to have” or “you learn more from your losses than victories” needs to remember one major caveat. That only applies for a brief period of time. The playing list changes so quickly, you soon have a bunch of team mates without that burning desire to atone for their mistakes as a team. The team starts all over again - see the last 15 years. This was a massive lost opportunity.
Yep, a complete cluster fck. Can’t blame any individual, it was a team effort.
It isn’t like the coaches will have spent any time with this side teaching them what to do to win the close games.
Hell,we’ve barely learnt how to play the basic game plan.
If we lose another 5 close ones, like Richmond, then we have a problem.
Very proud of the boys. We were $3+ to win against a side that plays a style we’ve struggled against. While we threw it away in the last 4 minutes, we did win the last quarter. Lots still to improve on this year, and not a lot of holes to fill for next season to have an excellent best 22.
that pic of the final throw in (I couldn’t paste it) is horrendous. Not the push in the back, but the positioning of our defenders. Hartley has let Franklin run past the back of the ruck contest and is 2m behind him, giving him a free run into goal if the ball falls for him, Zaka is only slightly better on Jack.
FFS. You get goal side of your man, get an arm across him, look at the ball and push him away from the contest, and certainly don’t give him a clear path to goal.
That is just horrendous defence at any time, let alone a throw in 20m from goal in the final seconds. We have done that for a long time. There is no way a disciplined defensive side like Sydney would allow that.
Edit: this has been happening for a long time. I remember writing something similar all the way back in about 2012 (?) when Rioli ran into an open goal at Etihad after a series of handballs from a throw in about 40m out late in the game, where we coughed up 2 late goals to lose.
I can 1999 prelim. Woke up next day feeling like someone had died.
