On where a 20th team will be, 95% chance it’s a third WA team.
Reason is the AFL can sell a new TV timeslot - Sunday nights. Plus travel wise, they can have a Vic team play the Sunday night game against one WA side, then stay in WA for the week, play a Saturday Twilight game against another WA team, then fly home.
The 5% chance is a team from NZ - again, would open up a new TV timeslot (Sat/Sun Mornings). There was murmurs not that long ago about the AFL putting a 20th AFLW team in NZ to test the market and logistics.
They are playing in existing venues initially. If you don’t get the stadium before the licence it will never be built, especially in a place like Tassie and they’d be playing out of ■■■■ box Bellerive forever and become a drain on the competition.
The AFL are again chipping in, the only code in Australia that ever does for stadia, whilst all the others like the NRL, cricket, soccer freeload off the taxpayer and never put their hand in their own pocket.
It will help bring Hobart out of the Stone Age though. Pretty town but ■■■■ all to do.
Look at Adelaide post playing footy at the Adelaide oval. It’s moved it from 1983 to at least Aug 1991. Wait til they hear Nevermind & BSSM in a few weeks!!
David Walsh has already done that with Mona. If AFL, already played at 2 stadiums, is the reason to end the stone age then we’re doomed.
Tickets to games for the first few years at least will be like hen’s teeth. Accommodation the same on game weekends. Waste of time you blokes from the big island coming over to save us
