I thought last week vs Geelong was HUGE for our fortune’s not only this season, but as a football club. Having stewed on this win for a couple of days now, I feel that certainly the complexion of our season has completely changed as a result.

We out-hunted and out-worked Collingwood, a feat which rarely happens in football. Now there are expectations.

This makes next week all the more crucial. We come up against another wounded former-contender, possibly without their two best players. The question mark with us has always been ā€œso what happens next?ā€ Next week is as much as an opportunity to entrench ourselves in the top 4 as much as it is a chance we throw away all the goodwill we earned this week.

I reckon if we get up by 28 points by 3/4 time this year, we ain’t losing the game . Don’t want to tempt fate, but I reckon we have more steel in our game now.

Close enough, do I get @Stallion

Can report, their fans do not want to play us in finals.
I mean…I’m not keen either.

Also not sure who I DO want to play in finals.
Port at the ā€˜G?
Maybe another thread.

I loved Scott’s message to the group at 3QT but we stopped attacking halfway through the last which is why Collingwood got extremely close.

Next time, attack for the whole quarter. Collingwood want teams to go conservative as it means they’re the only ones who will score and the new rules make that much much easier.

It’s no wonder they continuously mow down teams.

Was a healthy discussion about this in the lid off thread

When Caldwell kicked his goal I thought they celebrated a bit much as in ā€œthat’s the sealerā€. And they seemed to take the foot of the pedal a bit after that.

Collingwood v Essendon

Coaches Votes

10 Zach Merrett (ESS)
5 Ben McKay (ESS)
4 Jye Caldwell (ESS)
3 Andrew McGrath (ESS)
3 Jack Crisp (COLL)
2 Steele Sidebottom (COLL)
2 Nick Daicos (COLL)
1 Scott Pendlebury (COLL)

Not sure how daicos got any votes? Assume mcrae gave him 2?

Very strange indeed. Yes he had plenty of possessions but very limited impact with them. In fact IMO, Shiel had more impact on the outcome.
Even Crisp getting three. He didn’t seem to do a great deal compared to others outside of the first quarter (where he was huge).

I don’t think Andy McGrath got many votes in the Nobby, but I watched the replay today and he was great. He was in everything in defence and again and again was the one who got the ball out of a disputed mess and gave it to someone who was clear and able to get a decent kick. Very, very underrated on this forum.

He was fantastic. Great zip out the backline and defended Bobby/Shultz well.

Jye Caldwell is always chronically undervoted.

Maybe his oily-ness causes reflection in the coaches box and they are not seeing him properly.

Feel like I’m taking crazy pills.
