Where did you get the pre season testing results info, is there a link floating around somewhere?
I wish. There are a couple of fellas on big footy that post the numbers from time to time.
For the combine I’ll be going on a mission to get them myself.
Thanks mate, I assume the testing numbers probably become more influential when you hit that mid first round onwards
Yeah, it always annoys me with the pre draft combine they only post the top 10 or 20 or whatever. I wanna see who did poorly, just as much as who did well.
So our pick will most likely come from the bottom half of your “Tier 2” group. Who do you think we should pick from among them?
Still think we need to find a way back into the draft to pick this kid up, he is our ideal candidate for a big forward to partner Caddy but could easily ruck too
i was going to ask you about this guy, been talked up on twitter, plays ruck but could make it as a forward or defender.
where will he end up 2nd round or third round?
from draft central
WEST PERTH:
#3 Kayle Gerreyn
Ruck/Forward | 199cm | 10/05/2006
Stats: 23 disposals, 28 hitouts, 7 marks, 2 goals
As is becoming a regular theme, Gerreyn was clearly the best player afield for the Falcons, despite the losing performance. He used his huge frame to advantage in the ruck, where he spent most of Sunday’s game, to move his opposition ruckmen off balance and win hitouts to advantage. Once again though, it was aerially where Gerreyn put on a masterclass, taking contested marks with ease and even drifting back at times to intercept behind the play. He was involved in everything, including across the ground in transition, and was rewarded for his efforts with two goals. Gerreyn has star talent and his last few weeks in the League side only seem to have furthered the gap between his abilities and this level of football.
I just think if we have pick 10, and Jobe is rated around 15 just take him.
We do not need another midfielder rated 7th best in their class they will not get game time and it wont do anything to drive the team forward.
Pick the best tall forward we can and take Kako.
I’m leaning towards smalls / running backs. Pies won a premiership with Cox and Frampton as key talls. Big games are won by smalls.
I think we have too many young talls on the list as it is anyway
Agreed. I’d be pretty disappointed if we took a forward with our first pick considering our biggest area of deficiency after a small forward is run and skill which we have an opportunity to address
Also a broader need for better users and runners. Especially off halfback.
Travaglia looks like a good fit for us
we are guaranteed to take a small forward for a first rounder or early second in Kako depending where bid happens.
Or more likely, a problem with the system.
You’re new here aren’t you?
Sorry…
Couldn’t help it…
Xavier Lindsay looks like the type of guy Hawthorn drafts every year. He is my pick.
I think there is a lot of group think that goes into these lists and then the draft order becomes gospel. Remember thinking about how Logan Morris was rated in the 30s on almost every list, even though his highlights looked superb.
12 months on and you’d probably take him top 10 now.
I also think reaching for talent who suit your list is better than taking best available, you just need to have the balls to back yourself in.
On Morris, he was a 191cm “undersized” key forward who from memory had slow 20m sprint (but don’t hold me to that).
That kind of prospect is a risk. Sometimes you take them and it pays off, but I 100% understand why he wasn’t picked higher. For every Logan Morris there are a number of guys that don’t make it with a similar profile.
Plus he’s playing in a team that is stacked with elite forward talent and midfielders who know how to move the ball forward. I think he’s pretty ordinary tbh.
I have wondered if some of Dodoros drafting had been influenced by industry group think. “Safe bet consensus picks” rather than list need?
I think the “private school scholarship vic metro kid has been in the pathway since the Vic u12s” thing distorts the rankings a bit.
I know I’ve become the annoying draft poster being hitched to Shanahan bandwagon, but I honestly have some rationale for it.
The biggest thing about it for me is that he clearly plays the position he would be drafted to play, ie Full Forward. Plus, he stepped up when trialled in the VFL. 11 goals in 3 games as an under ager shouldnt be ignored in the ranking thinking. That is actually an answer to the question of, “can he translate potential at a higher level?” And if he has done that, how much better could he be once developed further?
I also dived into the rabbit hole of footage about the Tier 2 and Tier 3 players in @noobermensch earlier post (thanks for that as it was a great guide), and come away more convinced we should “reach” for the player we need at our first.
I 100% believe that this is a 2006 draft cross road where we could take player X or Jack Reiwoldt…
