I also don’t get how picks after pick 40 could have no value.
Given that in the last four national drafts, the number of players picked has been 64, 59, 65 and 59, I think it makes sense to make picks after 60 have no value.
Unless they are suggesting that the draft is a pure lottery after pick 40 so you can just match a bid on a player bid on after 40 with any pick
Not sure, maybe have to match with a 30s pick, but someone bid on at pick 39 i dunno what you’d do. Although you could future trade a few years out, so could give a future second rounder and it just goes into the afl kitty and everybody moves up one place the following year. But basically yeah, dunno.
Personally I would be happy for nga to have no limit and be available to the club at any pick but they should be like father son forced to pay accordingly
I’m happy for nga to be open slather, but it should only include people from backgrounds under represented in the game. It gets stuffed by allowing indigenous kids, some of which are 5 percent indigenous and played footy their whole life. There should be different academies for young aboriginals.
Or someone’s parents born in England for example being nga, it’s pretty silly.
It needs to be limited to kids of Asian, Indian, middle eastern, African and Polynesian descent. That’s the reason it was set up, not for kids that are exposed to footy through their heritage or inner circle growing up anyway.
I agree the rules around it can be a bit how you going so that could do with some work.
What I would like to see is scrap the rookie list and make that part of the main list then have a completely seperate list for nga or indigenous that were undrafted
As a midfielder, Kako is becoming a serious weapon for the Cannons either as a first hands stoppage winner, or more commonly as a dangerous first receiver who bursts clear and delivers a creative and attacking ball by hand or foot. His accuracy on shots at goal continues to be an issue, but his field kicking is a weapon so perhaps his conversion issues are a case of the yips or a technical flaw that can be addressed.
For the purposes of this Rule 15, a Qualified NGA Player means a NGA Player
who:
(i) was born in Africa or Asia; or
(ii) has a biological parent who was born in Africa or Asia; or
(iii) is an Indigenous Person; or
(iv) is a CALD NGA Player
Where
CALD Country: a culturally and linguistically diverse country being a country:
(a) that is not classified by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) as a main
English speaking country;
(b) that is not in Africa or Asia; and
(c) is specified by the General Counsel as a CALD Country.
Edit: I believe the current stupidest NGA qualifier is James Borlase, whose dad was a 200+ game port adelaide SANFL premiership player. James was born in Egypt because his dad was working there at the time, and they moved back to Australia before he was 12 months old.
Ahh yes that’s the guy i was thinking of, i thought he was born in England, that’s trivial.
Overall though that’s a bit better description than i thought, but it’s been left open to loopholes as usual.
I still have a major issue with an indigenous guy like Riley Sanders being an nga, which would have happened had he found out a year earlier that he was 1/50th indigenous or whatever.
Crows are apparently right into Ned Moyle but failing that Bryan would make a lot of sense there. But you’re right, it’s silly to leave Essendon to just become a state-leaguer elsewhere.
