The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

FCFC are proper cooked if they both go 20-40

It’s not hard to understand… we did it to ensure we had points to match a bid anywhere in the draft from 7 through 17 rather than risk not being prepared and have egg on the face anyway. Simples…

Are they even that good or is it a case like us with the davey twins that they are being talked up due to the club link

That’s such a nothing article.
‘We will try to trade back in if a player we rate is there’
Jon Ralph is a dingbat.

how did we do @noobermensch ?

But a dingbat that our badly run club rated so highly they gave him a #1 jumper.

Not great for me.

I like Hamish Davis at that pick, but perhaps for a different team. He’s a flanker with dash and endurance and a bit of magic but his kicking action is broken and needs to be rebuilt which we probably don’t need more of at this stage.

Sulzberger is a bit of a nothingburger for me. Lots of action but not the class or hurt factor of others, I think we can do better if we’re using pick 43. If we’re looking at this list and guys that are still on the board here, I’d take Ough who’s a similar type every day over Sulzberger I think he’s a much more interesting talent. I’d take Sims or Gerreyn who are both forwards who can play backup ruck so both fill a need and have exciting talent. Retschko if we want a wing with high upside.

Day-Wicks - I hope someone takes a chance on him as he does seem to have bags of untapped talent but he’s also very risky. Just went completely missing for much of the season after he came in with a pretty big reputation. I suppose I’d be okay with us looking at him, but more for a rookie spot I think.

Zak Johnson is one that I love, and if he’s there at pick 48 I’d be happy with that pick, or even early than that really. Classy and versatile type, started the year playing on ball for the knights, but nice size and strong overhead which has let him play as an intercept defender at times this season. Honestly could end up playing anywhere given he’s also played wing and as a medium forward to good effect. Also one of the youngest players in the draft with from memory a late december birthday so plenty of scope for improvement.

Hannaford at pick 35 would be very very good value.

Article on draft analysis

Great article on interviewing a data analyst on recruiting.

Interesting he mentioned retiring recruiting dinosaur(s). But given previous comments about Dodoro not being an analytics guy it makes sense why our recruiting has failed to increase in performance to the league.

Also interesting he mentions there are players in the top ten he wouldn’t touch at all.

While thats fair, when he and Reid played together he was at least Reids equal and the club seem to be in love with him.
Same goes for Weid, Hayes out performed him for most of the year.

“Kako is a different type that the Bombers have lucked out on…”

How is this so? Isn’t our luck in?

Lucked out is slang for '‘done really well’!

It’s just acknowledging our luck will now run out after Kako. That was all the luck we get

It’s the American version of lucked in. I never figured the logic of it myself, but much about America bewilders me. Never more than now.

I suppose Brisbane “lucked out” with Ashcroft. What happened to “got lucky”?

He’s being very unkind to dingbats.
