The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

It always feels a bit weird with this kind of thing. I’m sure he would be been hoping to get a bid and a full list spot… but its definitely a good outcome for the club.

Did we nominate foley I can’t recall

I’m really intrigued by our retention of Todd and drafting 2x forward rucks in a row (Vigo last year). It could be mistaken for long term game plan orientated recruiting.

Seems like a good balanced draft, a lot more sensible than previous years and set up for a good influx next year. Well done Rosa, first draft night in a while i haven’t been ■■■■■■ off.

Straight to the car driving home

Love the Zak Johnson pick. Liked his highlights video a lot.

Don’t think we did with foley. But we have with nguyen and munkara in his draft year so I’m happy with that outcome

No left field garret mcdonagh picks.

In Rosa we trust

Reckon he’s one that in any other draft would have gone much higher.

Question re Cat B.

Why would a club draft their own cat b player so late if that player can be placed on the list (outside the list) ie Logan Smith

Zak J.
Another halfback who we are confident of moving into the midfield. …Where have I heard that before.

Because of the depth of defenders/mids this year?

Johnson just missing out on being pick 69 seems like a missed opportunity.

Because of the depth at his type, but also he’s a little more of a risk - lovely mover and skills but as I mentioned a less intense competitor. Impossible to read the minds of recruiters but at a guess I just think there were guys that teams were more fully confident in.

Worth mentioning again that he has a late december birthday, wont turn 18 for another month.

You’d hope a defender who can’t defend is being turned into a midfielder if their positives are good ball use and decision making.

This actually feels like a shift based on profile rather than the vibes like we’re used to.

I wouldnt say he can’t defend. He’s really strong in the air for his size, and he reads the play really well. When he played in defense he was an interceptor.

Boo we didn’t get pick 9.

Who cares?

Happy with what we managed to pull off. Speed a focus, agility, versatility, and good users of the footy.

Tick tick tick.

My son is rapt with this last pick.

It’s his best mate’s cousin.
