The 2024 Draft [spec] Thread

No offence but that question is becoming the bane of my existence this year.

The draft pool is so even, his range is anywhere from mid first round down to like third round or later.

HBF into a mid mmmmm we’ve been down that path a few times lol

Good luck with a phantom then.
If he’s a chance to go after 3rd round then this is a hell of a draft

The problem with ranking these guys is not just the evenness but also that the key forwards have very different strengths/weaknesses and attributes.

I think Shanahan will probably be a second round pick. But could I see a club that needs a key forward jumping earlier than that if they decided Shanahan is the one they prefer out of the key forward group? Sure I can.

Could I see Shanahan slipping later than second round if clubs feel as though he’s got too much Schache/Weideman about him? Sure I could also see that.

What are they saying, he’s a bit soft?

thats one way, or just gives up on contests a bit, sorta like a prime trainer at the club

We’re taking him then arent we

A day to remember for Jobe Shanahan as he made his VFL debut and managed to mark the occasion by slotting 4 goals to help his team get up for a win. His second goal was an outstanding solo effort with a contested mark, follow by a quick and decisive play on and long running shot from outside 50s to an empty goal square. His third and fourth goals showed his lead/mark craft as well as lovely set shot goal kicking from near the 50 meter arc.

Good on the kid. Seems a decent lead/mark type-operator.

I have to say though, watching him yesterday he does move a little bit on train tracks- his speed/agility compared to someone like Caddy at the same height (194cm) doesn’t look as impressive. Maybe might see him as a more speculative pick. Or I could be completely wrong.

Early days yet.

The thought of a Caddy & Shanahan duo makes me tingly in my downstairs area.

DON’T TOY WITH MY EMOTIONS!!!

Well, there goes pick 6-7.
I’m expecting Brisbane to knock us off in round 23 and we’ll finish 9th. So we’ll probably be around pick 10 (12 after Saints Battle compo and Levi Ashcroft bid).

11 after Lombard. But I haven’t really been factoring those two into the equation anyway, we should still be finishing with a pick inside the Kako bid and comfortably inside the elite group.

Eh, who cares. The difference is ■■■■ all this year and given our history there are very few guarantees.

Just get in before Kako

Horton or Armstrong, match on Kako and then trade back in for Oliver? Or will Oliver go too high to trade back in at a reasonable price?

You can bet your bottom dollar that by the time they hit their straps at afl level we’ll be crying out for quality midfielders :rofl::rofl:

Assuming we finish around 10th, I think it would be in our best interest to trade into this pick range regardless.

Saints are a good chance to get 1st round compo for Battle if he leaves so I’d be kicking the tyres on trading for that pick, which right now would be pick #6.

Why??? Currently those picks all look like mids which are the last thing we need. And none are exceptional kicking mids either.

Using additional draft capital to get into this part of the draft feels like a bad move.

If we’d got #6 or #7, I’d probably have been for trading back a few spots.
