There is certainly a touch of the 'Kurt Cobain's' about Bill Hicks, including the fact they died not even two months apart. The mythology of the 'dead artist' certainly rings true, to a point. But it's easy to forget that Bill was only 32 when he died, which in comedian land, is fark all. Most comedians don't really find their style or audience until their 30's. Bill was already a veteran. It's more than possible that his best work was still ahead of him.

Great thread. Many of my faves are here already (Moran, Hicks, Kay, CK) but I’ve always liked Demetri Martin. Kind of an indie-guy’s comic, not to the taste of the masses, but he always appeals cos I like his obtuse lines of thought and playfulness with the language. I reckon he’d be cool to hang out with. A cool low-key tweeter as well.

For Stanhope tragics only, Doug and Doug, Benson and Stanhope, on a recent weird "stoner" podcast. It's long and rambling BUT he confirms he knows he's due "down under" at 44.30 so you can avoid the pot "chat" and go straight there if you want. Hope Doug realises that he and Bingo can't do this sort of stuff down here, at least not publicly, and sticks to the Jagermeister. Hate to see him incarcerated by some headline hogging cops before I see him in Melbourne.

I was at his last Melbourne gig where he declared he was never coming back to Melbourne again. It was a pretty visceral gig... there was only like 25 people in the audience and he abused the fark out of us personally in our faces for the entire gig.
Farken funny to me personally, I love collective audience terror at a comic who has gone off the rails... but the mate I took to the gig has never gone to another comedy gig with me again. Still recovering :)
hes one of the most underrated comics in the world. the guy is fearless. i went to his show a year or 2 ago at the comics lounge and he just owned it.
Fearless is standing up for an hour and a half and abusing people? Fair enough.
