{Ed starts Corduroy on acoustic, decides to switch to electric. He realizes he is gonna need a lot of friends. He wonders aloud if he has any friends around. The curtain that had been behind drops to reveal the rest of Pearl Jam with Abe Laboriel Jr. on drums. Abe has a question mark on his kick drum head}
Talk That Walk interest me a little. One of the Pseudo Echo boys jumped ship to join them, and they were very highly hyped - as headlining a Sat night gig at The Corner would suggest. Released one (very average) single Surface Tension, got pushed heavily by Countdown and then… phut… Didn’t even get as far as releasing a follow-up single, let alone an album.
The singer (Clive Young) scored heavy airplay and a top 40 single with Something Special a year or two later, before he too disappeared.
I’m seeing what is left of the Sweet (Andy with supports) in Geelong tomorrow. Got a shock when I realised how much Queenslander Mike Chapman contributed to '70s pop. Like Desmond Child and Max Martin he seems to have quietly powered different performers, sometimes rivals.
Mike wrote/produced Can the Can, Blockbuster, Hellraiser, Ballroom Blitz, Devil Gate Drive, Teenage Rampage, Living next door to Alice, Stumblin’ In, Hanging on the telephone, Heart of Glass, Union City Blue, Mickey, Atomic, the Tide is High, Rapture and My Sharona. Not a bad J&B Christmas compilation.
Wow, I’m down the rabbit hole now, what about Kelly and Steinberg? True Colours, Alone, Eternal Flame, I’ll Stand by You, I Touch Myself, Like a Virgin…
