Saw Mitch Marsh interviewed (informal- walking through an airport) on local news here in Perth last night. Questioned over the nature and length of time he’d been carrying an injury. Paraphrasing it was clear he had a significant, long-term ‘niggle’ but refused to hide behind it. He spoke positively about chasing a recovery and a come back (of sorts) at the highest level. I should add at no stage did he try to suggest the injury led to his poor form. Was wearing trackies and Crocs. Heart went out to him as you know he just loves playing for his country and being around the boys.
Oh, I mistook Champions Trophy for Test Championship for a second.
Meh. It’s a pox tournament anyway. We should just send our B side to prove a point about it being a waste of time.
I get that point of view but I’m not sure that’s how it’s being viewed internally. They’ve been public in saying that it’s one 50 over tournament that we have actually not had much success in so we’re intent on performing well.
I never realised how funny he was. His interview at the border medal was very entertaining
I heard Ronny Mac on the radio today saying Marnus is not under any pressure to hold his spot. WTF? I almost drove off the road hearing that crap. It reinforced to me what an absolute clown Ronny is.
Ankle is still a problem and likely to rule him out of the Champions Trophy. Same with Hazelwood.
Green looking to play County cricket in the coming season as a batsman. Wants to play in the WTC as a batsman. If he does then he should replace Marnus.

Yep, was absolutely stoked when I saw that draw. Will be going to the second and third tests
It’s comments like these that reinforce what an absolute clown you are.
What would you have him say? “yeah he’s gotta make 100 or we’re 100% gonna drop him…”?
■■■■■■■ honestly.
Marnus should have been dropped already chop.
maybe so, maybe not.
But no elite level sporting coach on the planet is going to publicly threaten it and anyone who thinks they should is ■■■■■■■ moron.
You don’t encourage peak performance by deliberately making people anxious about their performance.
When you are asked if the player is being dropped as part of team selection then you only have two answers, yes or no. He said no and that is what Lawry was complaining about. Not sure why that causes you to abuse him?
Lawry is abusing the coach because he didn’t say the words that he wanted him to say, just as no other elite sporting coach on the planet would say them. Because it is in no way productive.
So yeah, I’m more than happy to reflect the exact same thing back at him.
What I think both @Lawry and @choppsuey needed to hear/read.
“This is the Australian test cricket team. Competition for spots should always be an important aspect of driving team success. We’ve identified a really good up and coming batting group, that looks flexible enough to slot them anywhere in the top 6.
In Marnus’ cases specifically, he hasn’t got the runs that he would’ve liked, but we are backing him to turn that form around for the second test in Galle.”
I agree he hasn’t been great but he had a couple of knocks against India that went a long way towards securing us the series and he would have got some credits for that. Whether that should be enough to save his bacon is the question
Mate really? I called for SK, Webster and Inglis. Others laughed. Look at the numbers. It’s very obvious Marnus needs to be dropped and I believe Ronny Mac isn’t a great coach. If you want to discuss team selections I’d love to do it. I love cricket and get to as many tests as I can. I always have a view and I wanted to see regeneration. I also believe great teams set high standards - I don’t see that with the ongoing Marnus selection.
I think the main issue is how long they have persisted with a guy who has been underperforming, whilst others do not get the same level of support.
His recent form has been a struggle to watch but he has managed to eek out some runs, as hard as it was for him to do that. So they will persist with him.
Lawry is to the cricket thread what nino is to blitz…
Not quite but I want to see guys rewarded when appropriate and dropped if their form sucks for an extended period of time.
End of the day he finished the Indian series as our third highest run scorer and played a couple of very important knocks so it’s probably got him some credits. A lean Sri Lanka and Windies tour would leave him in danger of missing the Ashes though I’d think
