O’Neil averages 22.6 at first class level with 3 50s in 57 innings. Abbott’s batting average is 24.6 with 1 100 and 16 50s in 129 first class innings. So not a whole lot of difference.
Not a lot but I still believe Abbott is a superior batter and could bat 8,9 or 10 whereas O’Neill is a straight up number 10
I noticed he didn’t play in the last Shield game v NSW. He may be injured again?
This action is…. Interesting

Earlier than the next away Ashes for mine.
I’m confident he’ll get picked for the tour to South Africa in Sept/Oct ‘26. He’d go well over there.
It seems early to announce the squad 16 days before the test. Anyway no surprises in squad.
Well that was pretty ordinary.
Everyone wanted to be a rock star.
Even though the squad is picked , this next batch of Shield matches is critical imo. However we line up, the batting order doesn’t have too many guys in good first class knick with the bat , and potentially they’ll have to cope with some genuinely quick bowling. Which I have a few queries over. For most of our batsmen, actually, for various reasons.
I personally wanted Kellaway in the squad , but Weatherald , Green, Head , Webster and even Khawaja all need runs / confidence.
If England actually compromise and play to the conditions, this will be a very very close series. And if Cummins misses a large portion , that’s a gigantic problem that I think is being undersold by many. He’s the one that gets key wickets in the tough periods. And there’ll be plenty across 5 tests crammed into 6.5 weeks ( utter madness, fwiw) . The only saving grace is that you wonder if Archer and Wood can roll out for that sort of schedule either.
There are some real bunnies in this Australian T20 side.
Dwarshius dropping a soda is half-expected, but Maxy spilling his was a massive shock. Abhishek hits a big ball!
I see Kellaway survived the first session - against 3 quarters of the Test attack - on a day 1 scg pitch…….
He’s copping some serious thumb music from Starc, but staying out there…currently 46 not.
I think NSW have already activated their sub. Not sure. Only just turned on the TV.
he has made it to 50
and then got out…
And Peake quickly followed with a Harperesque shot - caught in the gully slashing.
4-145 with Handscomb 47 and Harper 13.
Tassie 5-139 with Silk on 41 and Webster out for 13.
Kellaway looks a good young prospect.
I did not realize that Jackson Bird was still playing Shield cricket!
No runs for Weatherald or Webster. Not ideal.
I don’t think Doggett is test standard but took 5 again today.
McSweeney opening and failed
I’d really hoped Sangha had turned a corner as I like his upside and he looks stylish when he’s up and going but he seems to be reverting back to the middling version of himself that he’s been for most of his career unfortunately.
We need Trav to get some runs here.
