I only realised today that he bowls right-handed but bats left-handed.

Never noticed it before. The commentators have probably mentioned it (ad nauseam) but, like the footy, I prefer to watch with the sound muted.

For SA tour maybe it could be:

Kellaway
Renshaw
McSweeney
Smith
Head
Green
Carey
Starc
Cummins
Lyon (or take chance to try new spinner)
Hazelwood

Weā€™ve moved Smith, Head, Green and Carey around to accommodate and it hasnā€™t really worked. And Iā€™d much prefer Head back at 5 in red ball where heā€™s so damaging. Iā€™d take Konstas along too if heā€™s regained any touch in reserve. Prolly other young bats that need to be eased in and blooded if circumstances demand?

Anyway ..

Iā€™m not sure you can send Kellaway to South Africa after averaging 27 in the Shieid last year. I know there are not many options out there but thatā€™s throwing someone to the wolves.

Punter made a good point, Warner and Lab were picked on feel, because they made batting look easy and it paid off. He said absent guys knocking down the door we need to look for this before we lose a generation of experience without anyone filling the void. He picked Kellaway and Peake in this example.

That being said, they tried this with Maddison and Cartwright, it didnā€™t work out.

Itā€™s time to rest Lyon, and select an old Windies-style team: 4 quicks and Head as batsman- spinner. If we need a leggie Smith can turn his arm over.

Why isnā€™t any one suggesting Peake, after playing some white ball cricket, I would think its him that gets a game before Kellaway. Understand he is a lower or bat and we need top order, but why canā€™t he back 6 and leave Head and Renshaw opening.

I also think Jack Edwards would be putting some pressure on Webster.

Head has to drop back to the middle order. He won us an Ashes series as an opener and it was a great sugar hit positional change. But I donā€™t think it should be persevered with long term.

Weā€™re robbing ourselves of the best number 5 in world cricket for having a hit and miss opening batsman. And itā€™s throwing the entire middle order out of balance.
