But just think it’s shortsighted getting rid of a player that we’ll likely be going back in less than two years.
I think he should’ve stayed with the team, in place of Usman (going to retire soon) or Marnus, with a view to him playing consistently before the Ashes.
He’s had a taste. Clearly Bumrah is too good at this stage. 5 innings for 70 runs is droppable and 5 tests against Bumrah may destroy him. So Konstas to get a taste for 2 tests and McSweeney can get another opportunity when a middle order spot arises.
I guess marnus has age on his side compared to Smith and Uzie, and when the shelves are bare. It’s not like McSweeney was getting more runs than marnus. I think smith retires soon and they slot McSweeney into 4. (Well I hope, they really need to start turning this side over)
I’m just stumped who is the other opener to take Uzies spot…and that’s if Konstas succeeds…otherwise we need two…
Sorry I corrected just before you sent. I think they should be trying to slot him in, he’s youth and he’s showed promise.
Or marnus keeps failing and he takes 3
Let’s hope both are dropped (both should be and are cooked).
Xavier Bartlett potentially being included in the squad is awesome! Xav has a bit of Terry Alderman about him and could do well in Sydney where the ball gets scuffed up (swing and reverse swing).
Inglis is in the squad - is he a chance?
Maybe it could be:
Uzi
SK
Marsh (batter only) - or Marnus
Smith
Head
Webster
Carey
Pat
Starc
Boland
Lyon
I’m thinking more and more like @Lawry and it’s scaring me. But on current form, there’s no way Marsh is a viable option at 3. Marnus has him covered there.
I’m a self confessed pain in the butt I know - but we all know change is needed and was probably needed 12 months ago. I figure if I post it enough it’ll happen
