The Cricket Thread (part 9) - from Dec 2024

Great one handed catch of the six in the crowd. The dude didn’t even spill his beer.

Melbourne Stars, can’t bowl, can’t bat.

Never knew Lloyd Pope was in his 50s

i find there’s a certain charm to barracking for the stars.

a brand designed in a 2nd yr uni group project to appeal to minecraft users. as much connection to melbourne florida as melbourne victoria. a replacements/major league esque roster of dimwits who would all be unreal cricketers if not for one hilariously critical flaw each. sharing a nickname with the biggest fkng structurally unsound conversation piece sculpture a major city has ever built. every single decision ever made about this abn has destined it to eternal failure.

and in a turbulent world where each day presents us with the sometimes devastatingly unexpected that we all just somehow have to find a way to deal with, its nice to take comfort in the certainties of life that can make us feel like maybe everything will be ok in the end

a cold beer will always taste good after a hot day of labour. the couch will be comfortable. the sun will set, will rise tomorrow

and the melbourne stars pty ltd will still suck

Bit off topic but tried IB cricket on the vr today and it was great probably the most fun I’ve had on it since the lad brought it

I’m gonna tell my kids this is a Banjo Paterson original

It’s been two weeks since the last shield game, so there is no way players will lose form. You have to remember the Shield season runs from late October until Mid March and the shield season only contains 10 matches for each team, so it is hard to stagger the season around tests which are now condensed into a 6 or 7 week block. Anyway if you are good enough you can make runs and take wickets.

Keeping him in the squad just means he’s doing 4-5 nets sessions in melbourne, instead of in Adelaide.
He’s clearly not up to it atm.

What can you actually do when someone gets injured doing a high 5?

Perhaps we need to bring Annabel Sutherland into the team.

100* (78) for Sutherland

should be out

I’d like to see him debut in front of his family and friends in Sydney.

But Melbourne is good too.

Sure, they won the last 2-3 sessions, but it was unwinnable for them after we batted into day 3 (which we shouldn’t have).

My interest in the bbl is virtually nil, but there is something reassuring about the Stars being perennially useless.

It’s probably the same sense of reassurance that opposition supporters get from Essendon being perennially garbage…

Mrs B and Little Miss B are out so I figured I’d catch a few overs of the bbl while I’m having dinner.

Is this dog & pony show not even on free-to-air these days? Making a meaningless comp even more meaningless. Good move…

Last nights game was on in Vic. Maybe only games involving your state are player free to air?

10 of the 44 games are exclusive to foxtel/kayo. 34 games on FTA

My eldest kid is 12yo and loving his cricket. Can anyone recommend any good cricket books that the might like? Showing my age but I remember reading Max Walkers “How to kiss a crocodile” and the Chappeli books when I was around that age. They might do the trick but maybe some more modern cricketers might be more his line and length. Is Glen Maxwells book any good?

Can’t go past the Warwick Todd books for mine.
