The Cricket Thread (part 9) - from Dec 2024

McDonald said a couple of days ago that Marsh was fully fit and was not bowled much due to tactical reasons.

I think everyone knows that he wasn’t fully fit. Just Ronnie playing games.
Even if 100% fit though all bowlers have a load scheduling applied to them by the medical team. Someone coming back from injury but 100% fit may be told they can only bowl 10 overs per day in 3-4 over stints similar to what Green did.
I don’t for one minute think that Marsh is fit though

Pumped for Webster. He can contribute sfa and that would match Marsh’s output, so cannot be worse.

Pant going from the destroyer of Australia to dropped is interesting. To be fair it’s a massive accomplishment at all just to be playing cricket at the top level again after that car accident.

I still feel bad for Michael Neser. He’d have been perfect for this test. Poor c*nt plays his entire career behind Cummins/Starc/Hazel and whenever he has an opportunity he seems to be injured. Him and Boland both have almost 400 first class wickets at 24.

Boland will almost definitely play in Sri Lanka unless Richardson, Abbott or someone else jumps the queue. Guess it depends on how many quicks they play but no Pat opens the door potentially

He should have been dropped before the Melbourne Test, after that washout in Brisbane.

They’re resting him for Sri Lanka? Who would captain if they did, Smiff or your boy Trav?

Herald-Sun reporting that Smith will take the reigns in Pat’s absence.

Wait, why will Pat be absent?

Birth of his 2nd child. Will miss the 1st Test minimum.

He had injuries during the year then his preparation was really poor and it was completely stupid to pick him given his injuries and no prep. The selectors were gambling that he’d ā€œplay a blinderā€ during the series. They gambled wrong - it was a very poor selection

For SL tests - there is talk of us playing three spinners a specialist paceman and a bowling all rounder eg Abbott or Webster. The wickets are dry turners and we could open with spin.

The spinners selected for the SL tour will be interesting - I’d say Lyon, Kuhnemann, Murphy, Roc and Zampa all in the frame. Will they take 4 spinners or 5?

Man, the FB algorithym is out of control. I am swamped with Indian media pot stirring about us cheating, especially the Jaiswal decision.
I must admit that their salty tears were somewhat delicious at first, I am now full.

I wonder if India would have reviewed the Jaiswal decision if he was given out on field.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow, cricket on the radio and second day back at work, working from home.

I just can’t see us playing 3 specialist spinners.
I’d imagine we will start the series with 2 quicks, 2 spinners and use some part timers.
Lyon and Murphy possible but think we might take 4 over there. I wouldn’t be taking Zampa TBH

Pretty much backs up what I said about India a few days ago. The abuse thrown at Travis Head’s wife is appalling. I don’t understand how you can take it so seriously to the point where you think it’s acceptable.

I’ve loved the different memes getting about though:

Just turned the BBL on and JFM has faced 2 balls and hasn’t got out yet. Shocking.

 3rd ball and he is out

He needs to go back to club cricket and sort himself out. Haven’t watched but let me guess, he tried to belt one out the ground and got caught?

No, his other issue: the ball moves slightly off the line and he pokes at it without footwork and gets caught behind.

He’s not ready to play for Australia- needs more time

Something i predicted yesterday. Seems like the coach got his way.

Is Pant dropped confirmed?
