The Cricket Thread (part 9) - from Dec 2024

Hopefully the Marsh dropping shows the selectors have a set of pills and can make the hard decisions. They need to in this instance or else he will hang around like a bad smell Heppell style 2023-24. If they don’t tell him, he will keep going.

Yeah no issue with the Konstas/Bumrah stuff. He goes looking for it and he’ll get it coming back his way.

Obviously the Kohli thing last test was ridiculous and certainly crossing the line though.

You clearly don’t remember Warner doing similar, or Lyon dropping a ball next to a players head

Konstas has been very lippy, can’t be surprised if the opposition get stuck into him

My thoughts exactly. Konstas wants to say a few words to the Indian captain; he can expect a few coming back.

They have earned a pass for now for finally dropping Marsh. And they did have the balls to bring in a 19 year old kid in the middle of a big series. Albeit, McSweeney was possibly a bit hard done by.

Umpires should ask the bowling team if they want the option to bowl an extra over or two when batsmen wheel out the time wasting antics. That should cut down on that.

Koala was beyond egregious.

EDIT: Also that ending would go a long way to temporarily galvanising an Indian team that are/were falling apart by the seams behind the scenes.

Bit of placebo for the Indians. They’ll find it tougher bowling tomorrow… particularly after lunch. Think we rolled them for about 70 under a par score.

If the deck flattens out, I still think we’re a good chance to only bat once.

Chuck Berry on SEN just after play said the same. Chuck saying for the good of Australian cricket Uzi needs to come out and say second innings is his last and he’ll retire end of this test. Or if he won’t then somebody like a coach or mentor needs to tell him to retire. Uzi is cooked he is done, finished over and out. He has no self awareness- please Uzi go. Not moving his feet again it’s terrible and it’s obvious

Zero chance Khawaja is dropped. He will go to Sri Lanka and be our leading run scorer and that will buy him a spot for the Ashes where he will average 12

And will get slapped with a wet lettuce leaf

I’m not sure he will make runs in SL. He’s proper cooked - open with Head and SK in SL

Can easily get through a couple of tests in Sri Lanka without Khawaja.

Head
Konstas
Marnus
Smith
Handscomb
Inglis/Webster
Carey
Starc
Lyon
Murphy
Kuhnemann/Boland

I think CA would have loved Maxwell to have got in some Shield cricket to be an option at 6 as a guy who can play spin well and bowl some off spin but his injury was awful timing. Tough to take him now.

Bumrah got annoyed at Usman time wasting, Konstas butts in and starts having words with Bumrah.

There was zero reason for him to get involved at all. The spineless umps letting the batters time waste didn’t help the situation at all either

He is the cricketer version of ginnivan. Very talented, but is going to rub a lot of people the wrong way along the journey

I don’t like the time wasting. I want to watch another over.
As a non-attending, non-paying, illegal stream watcher, I deserve to watch another over.

Actually laughed out loud at the illegal streaming part!

Almost zero chance that Khawaja doesn’t go to Sri Lanka IMO.
Trav and Konstas to open with Usman 3

No doubt that’s likely but my point is you can end this now and give him a good send off in his home test. No point in him hanging around and turning up at the Ashes this time next year at 39 absolutely cooked.

I think Khawaja’s narcissist wife should host another segment and tells us all about when he would like to retire.
