Perhaps we should boycott this T20 WC.
I mean, weâre literally the only country in the world that doesnât allow T20 to undermine our test summer. Our test matches still occupy the premium time slots on the calendar and CA have even doubled down on that into the future.
The beautiful illusionâŚ
I want to ask againâŚ
Maybe it was answeredâŚ
Weâre playing (as far as my googling can figure out) 44 BBL games per season.
Wouldnât it be nice if we played three international T20s amongst that? So that form in the BBL led to selection?
Wouldnât that add another dimension and reason to be interested?
Iâve actually no idea if this is sarcasm, genuine or just a gentle nod to irony ![]()
@wimmera1 It might, but itâd also take more players away from the BBL, which CA are loathed to do for anything other test cricket.
We are like two weeks from football codes (AFL and NRL) dominating all the sporting headlines again.
Peak time for cricket is done. Irrespective of what is or isnât scheduled. I think that is what Chopp is pointing out.
I feel like thatâs a moot point if weâre scheduling games in August.
Yeah South Africa tour England in September.
For three whole games?
Out of 44?
And thatâs even if you canât schedule properly.
No I think youâre just missing whatâs actually occuring.
CA is the only cricketing nation in the world that continues to prioritise Test cricket over itâs own domestic T20 competition. Nobody else in the world does it, everyone else ensureâs their domestic T20 comps have the exclusive marquee time slot and all their test/international players available for it for most if not all of the tournament. Indeed, some nations even send 3rd string sides to international test tours to ensure their best players are playing in their T20 comps.
In Aus, the BBL franchises get our best players for 3 games a year, if theyâre lucky.
Thatâd be 3 less games than they currently have the best players for, which is barely more than 3-4 already.
All CA have done is moved the ODI/T20I games from January to November so that the BBL gets clear space in January with international players available after the Test series.
Donât think they will all be available as a bunch who play iT20âs will be heading off fairly soon after the tests end.
Correct. Test cricket in Aus gets the best timeslots and CA have confirmed that will continue for a long time to come. Weâre very much one out on our own in that regard.
Ahh, see thatâs where we differ in opinion. To me, if that was really the case, then prioritising Test cricket wouldnât see 5 Tests crammed more or less into December, and arguably the best cricketing month (on several fronts) handed to a BBL show.
You cannot talk me around to a view that the Adelaide Test on Australia Day weekend wasnât brilliant.
Edit - plus, Iâd argue that closing down Shield for two months isnât putting Test cricket at the top of the pile. But thatâs a slightly different tangent.
Was just looking at the SA20 league. All the teams linked to IPL franchises.
MI Cape Town
Sunrises Eastern Cape
What year do we think the IPL franchises take over the BBL teams?
It was only recently that CA got canned for fielding a second string team in the one dayers and the series was a total loss financially. Maybe Iâm wrong but not sure how many people are going to rock up to a T20 International to watch our C grade
Couple of years.
Within 5 years the IPL franchises will own the teams in every major domestic comp and players will be contracted to the IPL franchise and that will determine where they play
Itâs interesting that there are no Indian players playing in the SA20 league.
