Nothng short of embarassing

Abso ...

as in absobloodylutely.

Looking forward to the South African series. Want to see how well the South African's face up to chin music.  SA pitches are usually favorable to fast bowling, and SA won't slow down the pitches, because of their fast bowling armory. And want to see how well the Aussie bats handle the moving ball.

It should be  a fascinating series.

I'd bat up until about halfway through the last session today. By that stage we will be well over 500 ahead, and then have 2 days to roll them. Mind you the way it has gone this series we could bundle them out in 2 sessions.
I went to the Renegades-Stars game last night. First off, what a crowd, 42K+ for a domestic fixture is a sensational result! ground level and the top deck of Etihad were packed. But White is in sizzling form, as is Maxwell, he could really be a special player, I wonder if he can make it as a genuine Test batsman. It wouldn't be for a lack of ability...

Maxwell is no good, another Bailey type who is only good at the micky mouse stuff. Averaging a laughable 25 in real cricket this season. At least White has shown he can make runs in proper cricket

He's 25, in what... his 2nd? season of FC cricket? Not putting his name forward yet, but they'd have to be watching him long term.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if, like White, Hastings & probably Henriques, he's been picked once, batted too high & bowled too early... then ruled "never again"

Unlike White and Hastings Maxwell actually has potential to be a good player

He is arguably England's best bat since Barrington and Dexter, who played in the 60s. So I would say he is indeed a champion of the game. His scoring rate sets him apart from the likes of Cook, Gower, Boycott and Cowdrey.

Gooch would have to be up there, surely. I'm not sure how relevant a #4's run rate is compared to openers (which Cook, Boycott, & Gower were.. not sure Cowdrey, wasn't he back in AN's day?)

I admit neither of them are exactly George Bailey or Ed Cowan level just yet.

I'd have Cameron White playing test cricket ahead of George Bailey. Not because I think White is a test batsman, just because I think he is more a test batsman than Bailey.

I've a feeling White wouldn't fare a hell of a lot better than Bailey; but he's actually in some form right now & Bailey far from it.

Kipper Cowdrey came out here as a replacement in 1974/75, walked out to face Thommo...no helmet...introduced himself to Thommo as Good afternoon, Mr Thomson...Thommo's response was probably of the like of 'get back to the f**king crease, c**t', wore a few without flinching. Great slipper.

But he was a gun before TV was in colour, like Dexter, May, Graveney and Barrington. My memories of all 5 in their prime is hazy at the least.

Gower would easily bat 4 in the best English teams I've seen....way better than Gooch. And not a snooty pommy c**t like Gooch, Gatting and Botham can be (even though they're not entitled to think themselves toffs).

BTW HAP referring to Gower as an opener makes you seem ignorant. It's like calling Clarke or Ponting openers.

Nor I imagine will they ever reach those heights

Gower's batting style was as elegantly easy on eye as any batsman I've seen but he was a bit flirty outside off. Only have blurry memories of Boycott but as I remember he was a brick wall, the Australian team were nearly as glad to see the back of him as his own team mates so in that sense he's a bit like Pietersen

gold on thommo, can imagine that conversation as described.

piers morgan introduced himself to chapelli the other day to be met with "no mate, youre a ■■■■■■■■."

its not even rude by his standards.

nate lyon joins bill johnson from the 1949/50 ashes as the only two batsmen in ashes history not to have recorded a series average after playing all five tests and not being dismissed

lyon therefore > bradman

Who is better out of Lyon and bill Johnson?

Difference being Clarke & Ponting played in my lifetime!!

Pietersen has scored more three more centuries from 14 fewer Tests, and Gooch's average of 42 doesn't put him in the same class as the others I mentioned. I'd also take marks of Gooch for his batting style!

Gower did play as an opener a few times, though not much. I think he was originally an opener.

I assume you're all tuning in to see Bangladesh's premier cricketer, Saqibul Hasan, playing for the Adelaide Strikers right now.

You've seen Gooch but not Gower? Well done

Farmer gooch - remember that series when he was alderman’s bunny? mostly lbw iirc
