The end of year cannon - who should be fired into the sun?

Cheers. Well good to know.

Why donā€™t the cnts just have one DFA period? And surely one week is enough given half a dozen blokes get picked up at best

Because it just has to be AFL 365 days a year.*

(*366 days in a leap year)

Thereā€™s a one day gap between the first two periods for who knows what reason. The third period starts the day after the draft, and the reason for thatā€™s pretty obvious.

Personally I think the trade periods should be as long as the clubs want (where it doesnā€™t become too much of an imposition on the players) to allow the clubs to get their list management right. If it becomes a drag for the fans, that should be a distant secondary concern.

Thatā€™s not whatā€™s driving AFL decisions on this stuff, obviously, but a longer trade period with better outcomes is preferable to me over a short trade period where things donā€™t happen because thereā€™s some arbitrary drama deadline.
