Why donāt the cnts just have one DFA period? And surely one week is enough given half a dozen blokes get picked up at best

Thereās a one day gap between the first two periods for who knows what reason. The third period starts the day after the draft, and the reason for thatās pretty obvious.
Personally I think the trade periods should be as long as the clubs want (where it doesnāt become too much of an imposition on the players) to allow the clubs to get their list management right. If it becomes a drag for the fans, that should be a distant secondary concern.
Thatās not whatās driving AFL decisions on this stuff, obviously, but a longer trade period with better outcomes is preferable to me over a short trade period where things donāt happen because thereās some arbitrary drama deadline.
