One of the key pillars of Hüsker Dü. Your next question… who the hell were Hüsker Dü? Influential 80’s (largely indie) act from Minneapolis, renowned for their noisy but melodic spiky songs which were appallingly recorded…
For Bob’s solo work, if you’re interested give Silver Age and Workbook a go. Then try Copper Blue from his early 90’s 3-piece Sugar.
Give me some credit…I have not only heard of Husker Do…but have also listened to New Day Rising and Zen Arcade.
But never been interested enough to know the names of the band members (they have not made it to the playlist )
I don’t think any album from this decade would get in my top 100 all-time faves. Possibly 200. It’s a lot of “oh yeah, that’s pretty good I guess”
They’d litter throughout my 100-200.
Can’t really imagine any being top 100.
All part of their rough-hewn charm Jez, but there’s absolutely no denying it…
I have theory on that.
The older we get, the greater the number of albums that we have listened to and so newer ones (unless they are really damn good) don’t get played as often as the ones from our younger days.
And so our “all time faves” will tend to heavily favour albums from the years when we were first getting serious about music…the number of albums that we had access to were far fewer than what we can access these days and so we (well I certainly did) played them a lot more and got to know them so much better.
Eg: The biggest problem I had with picking my 70s choices was which great albums were going to miss out.
For this 2010s list, I’ve spent the last week going back and listening to a heap of the albums on my playlist.
It was way harder to find the three albums for some years.
Yeah definitely agree with that. Looking through my lists, the last newly released album that really got through to me in the impressionable way they do when you’re younger, a big strong fave, was in 2008.
I dunno…there must be something going on…maybe with spare time or formats?
It’s weird that I have virtually nothing from '99-11, and then five years where…to my tastes everything got better?
I think I started listening to Spotify in 2015…so…that doesn’t completely explain it.
Edit: LMW was born in 00, so…there were a lot of So Fresh cd’s. And I guess I was listening to my i-pod a lot?
No Wombats?
This was the decade where it all changed a bit for me. I started to get older, the music wasn’t being made for me anymore, and after spending the better part of two decades constantly going to gigs and festivals, that started to trail off. I don’t blame the decade or the music (there’s still heaps of great stuff this decade) It was me, my age and my stage in life. Plus, my first daughter was born half way through the decade, which automatically and instantly removes your finger from being anywhere near the pulse of popular culture.
2010 and 2013 were still stacked for me, and if I was a ‘Baker’ type to give honorable mentions, they’d both have quite a few.

The backend of this decade is absolute tripe. First half is better than I initially thought. Had to leave a lot off the table, I guess my decline in being hip to the what’s happenin.
