How do you find the Marshal as against the Orange? I really like the orange sound. Am I right to think Orange was started by an ex Marshall engineer?
For my needs I prefer marshall amps. The plexi style ones. Mainly because I love fuzz. I find for fuzz to work on the orange, absolutely everything has to be cranked, including the fuzz for it to work. And with Oranges being mostly very high gain amps, you lose that beautiful fuzz clean up from using your volume nob. It just wont clean up much.
Having said that, i still love the orange.
Ive also got an old 1971 Fender twin. So i can cover all the flavours. But if push came to shove, I’d probably always go back to Marshall. As a dedicated Hendrix disciple, all I’ll ever need is a Marshall, a Strat and a Fuzz…oh, and a wah…and a univibe…and an octave fuzz…etc etc…
I played one when I owned a guitar shop. They are ok. Nowhere near the quality of the newer epi. Anything with a single pickup sounds better due to less magnetic pull. The best sleeper epi at the moment is the Jared James model it’s killer
That’s a solid body.
I like the resonance in the ES335 or ES333.
The Tom Delonge ES333 are now up to 10K!
Look at Japanese made alternatives made by VG or crews maniac.
Absolute high end wood etc. Better than a lot of custom shop 335s I’ve owned. On par with the 63 335 I still own
Other options are just get a 335. Pull out the neck humbucker but just leave the cover
is the body size bigger? or the same?
333 and 335 bodies are same size. If you want a smaller body size but still semi hollow go a 339.
What’s the best website for 2nd hand guitars?
Reverb probably…
I have the small body Gibson 339
Which state ? Musicswopshop, foundsound, echo tone, the rock inn.
Topshelf instruments is my favourite Simon is great to deal with.
Otherwise Facebook marketplace, reverb and ebay
Ive been saving for a while for a new guitar. Ive got nothing with humbuckers, so in the mind Ive been thinking Gibson. Either an SG (which I love), or something that when I was a young man I never thought I’d entertain, a Les Paul. LPs are ridiculously priced, so I’d most likely go down the second hand path.
However, last few months Ive became particularly taken by a little guitar company called Dunable.
Theyre making waves in the Stoner Rock scene ( of which Im a huge fan). Theyre all double humbucker guitars which beautiful shapes and wood finishes. Custom orders are comparable to lower range LPs. By all reports theyre sensational guitars built spectacularly.
Anyone had any experience with them?
Yeah, there doesnt seem to be any restraints on finishes. If you can think it up, they can probably do it
I put together a new pedalboard:
Fuzz => overdrive => tuner => harmonic trem => delay
Show us your stomp boxes!
So I’ve got a couple of options for a semi hollow body guitar that I like in the Blink 182 style.
Just buy an Epiphone ES355 Tom Delonge sig model from O/S. Around $2K
(I’d love a Gibson one but they are just way over the top expensive)
Or try and make a Starcaster like this. Basically buy the Squire Starcaster for around $550 and then make $300 bucks worth of mods.
Anyone modefied guitars before? How hard is it? Will I ■■■■ it up.
Ive been playing just mostly with a few foxrox pedals. Keely hydra for reverb and an Area 51 wah with a fuzz buffer.
That captain coconut pedal is one if my
prize possessions. A discontinued Jimi In A Box pedal with Octave Fuzz, Fuzz and Univibe in one. The fuzz section has both germanium and silicon transistors. You can blend the two. Very cool stuff.
That is very cool. I’ve never played one, but those Captain Coconut pedals cover all your Jimi needs in one box! Is the fuzz from the fuzz face family?
What does the Foxtox Zim do? More fuzz?
