I expected this would be the case, but I don’t have a reference and it’s just an indulgence for me so thought I’d hold the extra 500, expecting the SDs are still good
I bought a Vox AC15HW1X from them years ago which arrived without the alnico speaker, but they sent another correct one pretty quickly. If only it had a built-in reverb I’d still have it (not a big pedal fan).
Ive bought a few things from them over the years. Try to avoid them unless there is something i have to have. Topshelfinstruments in Hobart, echo tone here in Melbourne and music @ noosa are my main go to shops for gear. Premier guitars in sydney and the rock inn in Perth are great too
Well, it’s a few years since I bought another guitar, but I cracked pretty quickly after looking into these. Very good setup straight out of the box, feels great. Yes, it’s heavy! P90s sound good, but I have yet to fully explore the tones with different amps etc. I definitely prefer it to the MS2000 which it’s ultimately replacing.
I should probably let the Maton go, yes, but it’s not quite on the market yet. Seems to be very few around so it’s hard to gauge the value. 2004 model, and I wonder if I should hang on to it until it hits 25 at least. Person I bought it from 10 years ago said it’s a special edition STD with all Queensland maple top - might have to check with Maton to confirm. Gave it a clean up, came up well:
The Nighthawk (‘94) is a little cracker that I won’t be parting with willingly. I was in San Francisco in 2010 and was determined to bring a guitar home with me. Went to a couple of big shops but didn’t find any used gems to suit my modest budget. Then I found Real Guitars in a little back street and they had the Nighthawk, the likes of which I knew nothing about (had never seen one). The pup configuration, push-pull tone pots and 5-way switch make it incredibly versatile. Mimics strat and tele sounds pretty well, among other things. It’s a bit lower output than other electrics I’ve had, which is good for my smallish space as it allows the amp to be driven a little harder. I do find it a little odd that they weren’t more popular/successful.
