I actually wrote to red ant 15 years ago when they were developing their first AFL game and told them they should use the n64 port of Gretzky’s 3d hockey as inspiration for their game.
If you play that in arcade mode, 3v3, PvP, on a regulation size rink, with auto switching off it’s the only sports game ever that comes close to matching the pacing, intensity and chaos of Australian rules football.
Turning auto switching off let’s you Shepherd the Puck carrier and it’s amazing - especially pvp
They never replied and I’ve never played their AFL games but from what I’ve seen they are still pretty rubbish
