The Pro Cycling Thread (Part 1)

I ONLY watched Dennis on a podcast with Matt Stephens from a few months just this week. they spent their time discussing lego.

wow.

feel for his kids right now. potentially lose both parents.

Whispers are that they were goofing off with the car and a bike and it all went wrong.

The poor kids……her family…close friends………Tragic beyond words.
Not sure how he lives with this …& how he can be a father. So much sadness ahead.

Imagine it would be hard to find Jury that haven’t heard of him in Adelaide.

Gigante had a mechanical prior to the start and had to start on her old Canyon road bike. That will finish any chance she had.

Grace Brown takes it from Brodie Chapman (6 seconds down). Georgie Howe 36 seconds back in 3rd.

Gigante over 2 minutes lost and 11th. Not surprising given she was on a road bike.
The big surprise is Ella Simpson beating out Felicity Wilson Haffenden for the U23 title.

Looks like Plapp has had a bike issue too. No times being recorded at the intermediates, a sure sign that he’s got no transponder on the replacement bike.

Confirmed, bike change before first intermediate.

THAts 2 years in a row for Plapp having a mechanical. IN a surprise Medway beats McKenzie and Chamberlain in the under 23 ITT. The podium are all 19 or younget. RECKON Jayco will want Medway to ride in the Axeon Development team in 2024

Harper by nearly 18 seconds on Heppy & O’Brien at the 29km.
We don’t have anything on Plapp.

Plapp wins.
Great ride by Harper @32 seconds
Heppy disappointing 3rd, @55 seconds
O’Brien 4th 1.07

In off road news at Jayco they are beefing up their media department. Respected journalist Siagh O’Shea will head the PR at the time, while recently retired rider Jessica Allen will do PR, some DS duties and will manage the under 19 women’s tour of Europe.

Reckon, I’ve got the answer to Hepburn’s below par performace in the ITT - He seems to perform his best ITT’s in stage races where there is already accummulated fatigue in the legs. Interesting interview with Matthews by Daniel Benson - Matthews 2023 season was even more injury and illness affected than I originally thought - Anyway, he will go back to his original program starting at PN and then the Classics - There is a doubt whether he does the TDF, however, he thinks this is perfect preparation for the Olympics and the World’s - There is no way that Bling should go to the World’s as he will cope with a course with 4600 of elevation gain - He should be focusing on the Classics, Olympics and the Vuelta - In other news confirmed S.Yates will go to the TDF and Plapp to the Giro. Finally, Jayco will have an interesting year when it comes to transfers - S.Yates is off contract and the team wants stronger Aussie roots with Hindley and O’Connor coming off contract. My view is that you keep Yates because he is a more versatile rider than Hindley and anyway Plapp is being trained to be a GC rider. I would consider O’Connor as he could be a good stage hunter in GT’s and is decent in one day races.

In other news Whelan who is my second favorite for the mens RR will not be riding the TDU. Groves is also missing from the TDU, although he was a non-factor in last years edition.

Whelan is a good tip. He’s been putting a power of training, my son saw him doing 1:20 reps just the other day and he looks in great nick.

In the crits
RRG wins the women’s in a break from Baker and Manly.
In the men’s, Ewan wins from Plowright and Welsford.

Ewan looked super fast which augurs well for the future - Thank God, Roseman-Gannon got her first place - She should have won a race or two in Europe if it wasn’t for Jayco’s shocking placement of their riders - They have to ride an easier calendar outside of the big races to better develop their riders.

In other news Haegens Berman announced there final three riders for their Jayco development team. Holm-Jorgenson rode as a stagiare for Jayco this year while Alastair Mckellar is a surprise, seeing he spent three years in the Israel Dev team - He’s not WT level, but thought he could have found a pro conti contract.

Fergus Browning brilliant in the U23 RR.
Hit by a car yesterday, but still backed up to win the race today.

Models show that the men’s race could be very wet.
I wonder if there is a provision to reschedule if it’s deemed unsafe.
