The story of his life.
However, the story keeps repeating, you have to wonder if the rider himself is part of the problem.
The Pog has pulled out of the Olympics, citing fatigue.
The main reason for skipping it is because his partner, Urska Zigart was not selected despite winning the national RR and ITT titles.
He should have won Dwaars De Vkaanderen if he had team support and in Amstel gold he needed to follow Pidcock.
And wins. Weak field, though.
Good article
Gee. That looks like a dinner plate !
I read the Escape collective article which is a well put together piece. I feel that they glossed over the overall speed of the whole peleton which is an interesting development. They also failed to discuss how multiple climbers in the same stage are beating climbing records, so its not just a Pogacar or Vingegaard issue. They also could have studied the Giro and compared Pogacar’s times to the TDF.
Ewan was unimpressive last night and I would not take him to the Giro. We also have to consider that there are only 2 or 3 nailed on sprint stages, so it seems a pointless exercise in his current form. Let him focus on the WT stage races at Poland and Guangxi. I would pick a bold team for the Vuelta, however, I am certain Jayco will go the conservative path.
My team would be
Matthews
Schmid
Foldager
Stewart
Dunbar
Scotson
DeMarche
Zana
How many pure sprint stages are there this year at the Vuelta? Perhaps 2?
You’re not going to take a whole sprint train for that.
I think 2 or 3, possibly 4 if Ewan is in top form. i would be hesitant to take Ewan even if he was in good form. Ewan did state in his post race interview that he was riding the Vuelta! There are WT stage races that are sprinter oriented being Poland and Guangxi. Better that Ewan rides these races as you will not get Groenewegen back to Poland. Continuing this subject I would like Groenewegen to ride the Giro in 2025 or at least part of.
Vuelta?
Vuelta a Espana. Tour of Spain
Yeah, just yaco said “I would like Groenewagon to ride the Giro in 2024…”
We’ve had the Giro in 2024 right?
Yeah, I’m sure he meant Giro 2025. The Vuelta 2024 parcours would be most unfavorable to Groenewegen.
It’s pretty useless to speculate about next years GTs, as the courses haven’t even been set yet.
Tomorrow is the Mens ITT at the Olympics. The big three are Tarling, Ganna and Remco. Fancy Tarling over Ganna while I think Remco may miss out on a medal. The Women’s ITT should see Dygert win by 1+ minutes.
Go Grace!
That was a dominant performance by Brown. Even though Dygert crashed she was behind at the time. I still can’t believe that Brown lost the ITT at the Giro. Disaster for Plapp who crashed out when running fourth on split times. And he looked quite badly injured.
Dygert looked nervous from the start, perhaps because her compatriot crashed 4 times earlier.
