The Pro Cycling Thread

Gotta say the Pre-race coverage from Cycling Tips was A1. So much interesting stuff came from the riders - Love to see more of this.

The live stream was a complete fail though.

Strange the live stream of the race failed, but yet the pre-race coverage was perfect - What’s the name of the presenter ? He knows his stuff.

Apparently Ewan is doing Tour of Abu Dhabi, Tirreno and MSR - Fairly much skipping the classics - It;’ confirmed that Mezgec will be by his side in these races

Good to see AVV win Cadel’s race - the karma bus has been good to her since her crash in Rio. Also good to see a highly rated OS rider spend the whole summer in Aust riding lots of races from croc trophy to CEGORR.

Not sure who Orica’s main hope was - perhaps Spratt, but she must have missed the break.

Could be a bit of wind around Sunday as well for the men’s which should make the first 100ks a bit more interesting.

I think AVV was Orica’s main hope.

CEGORR - good showing by Aust devt kiddies. Porter in break for most of the day. Hindley, Hamilton and Storer all in first bunch of 23 - same time as winner, as was Canty (BMC).

Canty is with Cannondale-drapac

I thought Meyer had it TBH. They caught him at the death.

Spratt and Garfoor were the protected riders but didn’t have the legs - Van Vleuten is a gun rider and pleased she got a result after nearly three months in Australia.

Haas would have won the Cadel RR if he displayed a modicum of intelligence during the race - Guess the pressure of performing in OZ got to him.

Yeh, wasn’t the smartest ride out there. He probably had the strongest legs of anyone.

Haas definitely had the best legs.

First 3 days of Challenge Mallorca have been raced - Greipel took the sprint stage and Wellens won both mountainous stages.

Tour of Valencia Feb 1 to 5 - This is a climbers race with many leading GC riders in attendance - At this stage Orica have named both Yates, Keukeliere and Plaza - I believe Mezgec and Haig are both in this race.

Then we have the Tour of Dubai feb 1 to feb 5 which suits the sprinters - Cavendish and Kittel in attendance.

And finally we have the Sun Tour 1 to 5 with Froome and Chaves.

OGE team for Valencia

Albasini
Cort
Hayman
Juul-Jensen
Keukeliere
Mezgec
A.Yates
S.Yates

Orica team for the Herald-Sun Tour

Gerrans
Chaves
Howson
Power
Bewley
Docker
Hepburn

Seems a well balanced squad - Watch the United Healthcare Squad who have some decent riders.

Good to see Power riding.

Danny van Poppel wins the prologue at the Sun Tour.

And Kittel comes from a long way back to win his 2nd consecutive stage of the Tour of Dubai.

Just about to watch Stage 1 of the Tour of Valencia - A 37km TTT could play a big part in the GC battle.

For some unknown reason, Eurosport showed skiing instead of cycling, but anyway I managed to find a live stream.

BMC smashed the TTT - Lead Sky by 21 sec, Quick Step Floors by 49 sec and Movie Star by 1m and 2s and Orica at 2 minutes - So Orica will look for stage victories and gets kilometres into legs.

Howson wins the Sun Tour stage at Falls creek.
Hindley second and Ellissonde third.

  1. 13 Damien HOWSON (ORS) AUS 4h33:54
  2. 134 Jai HINDLEY (AUS) AUS +32
  3. 3 Kenny ELISSONDE (SKY) FRA +47
  4. 137 Michael STORER (AUS) AUS +1:03
  5. 12 Jhoan Esteban CHAVES RUBIO (ORS) COL +1:10
  6. 1 Chris FROOME (SKY) GBR +1:11
  7. 132 Nathan EARLE (AUS) AUS +1:11
  8. 133 Lucas HAMILTON (AUS) AUS +1:11
  9. 131 Cameron MEYER (AUS) AUS +1:13
  10. 97 Timothy ROE (IWS) AUS +1:15

Great results from Australian U23 riders Hindley, Storer and Hamilton.
