The Pro Cycling Thread

Haussler wins the elite mens road race from Ewan. What a top race that was.

Highlights from Men's Worlds CX last night. These guys are so BA.

Does this mean the existing cycling thread in this section should go ... "straight to the pool room"?

The one in the pool room is for recreational riding.

In big news overnight, Sammy Sanchez signs with BMC. Support for Cadel in the Giro or TJ in the TdF?

Maybe to lead the team at the Vuelta. A three pronged attack.

I suppose if he is a pure domestique he can do both tours.

I always worry about the Giro because the weather conditions are often challenging ( cold ) and it seems to take more out of the riders.

UCI checked for motors in bikes at cyclo-cross Worlds

First checks since Danilo di Luca's claim

The UCI checked the bikes of the first three of the world championships in Hoogerheide for mechanical doping. UCI officials removed the saddles from the bikes and used a camera to check inside the seat posts for the presence of motors, Het Nieuwsblad reports. No motors were found.

It was the first time the international cycling union checked for mechanical doping after the interview by Danilo di Luca on Italian television in January. Di Luca claimed that the use of motors inside the bike frame would be possible.

There was controversy in 2010 regarding Fabian Cancellara allegedly having used mechanical assistance to win both the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. The allegations were unproven and Cancellara denied them.

"I know how I achieved my wins. I have an engine, but it's in my body. This is the strongest one you can imagine. Over the last decade I've shown that I don't need any other motor," Sporza reported Cancellara as saying at the time. "It's frustrating that these stories keep popping up about me, but that's life."

So both Tour of Dubai and Herald Sun Tour kick off tonight.

In Dubai, the interest will be to see if Cav and Renshaw can restart the famous HTC "sprint train" they had together.

Sun Tour kicks off with a prologue

This thing finished out the front of the building I work in, sucks I have to head home to get the kids. Would have much prefered to hang out and drink a few beers.

Just saw either the NZ team or Rapha/Condor team ride past our building in St Kilda road.

A few more teams rolling through. Baku I think now.

Hopefully the St Kilda road traffic allows them to arrive safely! :D

Dubai looks awesome.

Dubai looks awesome.

Should be more interesting tonight.

Nathan Hass has won stage 1 of the Herald Sun Tour.

Good start for Garmin in HST - taking both prologue + stage 1.  Haas is having impressive summer in both sprints and climbs.  He seems to have become their main man ahead of Rohan Dennis.

This might not be a procession for Gerro and OGE after all.

As a side note - Does anyone know a PayTV option that is good for both pro-cycling and AFL?

Using Foxtel Go on my iPad using my folks' Foxtel login credentials. Works for me :)

(Watching Dubai Tour now...)

Absoultely this.

Plenty of pro-cycling on Eurosport. And that’s streamed to the foxtel site or app (or indeed watch it on TV)

Had to laugh, Renshaw and Petacchi lined up ready to go and no Cav!

Cav seems to excited to wear that Yellow Jersey on the first stage of the TDF ... think the Kraut might just pinch that too.

Kittel and Greipel have the wood on him at the moment.

So hard to tell who is who with all the dark coloured jerseys.

For the poor suckers who don't have Eurosport like me, this channel has the end of just about every race, worth subscribing: http://www.youtube.com/user/CyclingHub?feature=watch

And of course there is http://www.cyclingfans.com/ for the dedicated :)
