...just not good enough to have ever been rocked or play at State level in the last 3 yrs...
Um, they have all played and are playing at State Level, , Eagles and Cox for North Ballarat and Treloar for Frankston and Werribee.

And Jackson Sketcher who was the last guy eliminated has played 10 games for Frankston this season and has been best in 8 of them, plus he tied Hep for the Morrish in 18’s
Legit can’t believe Jackson got cut
Me either.

OK so the whole dynamic of the show has changed? Now it’s just State League Wannabes: The Show?
I think a lot of people dismissed it last time because the guys were so far off it, this time around they put together a group where one in theory could actually make it to the afl...just not good enough to have ever been rocked or play at State level in the last 3 yrs...Um, they have all played and are playing at State Level, , Eagles and Cox for North Ballarat and Treloar for Frankston and Werribee.

Yes to the the first part, no to the second part with the exception of Jackson Sketcher.
The big change from season 1 to season 2 is the first time round they specifically had a criteria that you couldn’t have come through any of the elite pathways (so no U18 reps, being on a TAC list, playing colts etc), and I think there also was a clause stating that you couldn’t have been on a state league list for 2-3 years. So Season 1 was taking a batch of bush/outback/suburban footballers, putting them in an elite environment for 8-10 weeks then hoping to get someone draftable at the end.
Based on the player standard they got the first time round (the winner was terrible), and presumably strong recruiter feedback they completely turfed the elite pathways clause and if the stage league clause still exists it has been slashed to 1 (2015 is the only year Jackson Sketcher hasn’t been on a state league list since his Morrish Medal win - which I think was Heppell’s draft year).
The second big change was Gary Buckenara (former Hawk player/Sydney recruiter) was brought on as a scout/recruiter for the show. So the standard has significantly increased, at worst they should be around state league level now (and thus not a big burden on a team if they don’t have reserves) and not state reserves or lower standard.
I’d disagree with the state league wannabes tag for the simple reason that Sketcher aside (which is why I’m personally glad he didn’t make the finals, as he’s had ample chances to get drafted), most haven’t been on state leagues in a good 2-3 years (and those that were on state lists had minimal exposure) or went from TAC/NSW Scholarship straight into suburban footy, there were also a few guys that didn’t come through the elite pathways.
The other thing you might not realise is all the pre-final stuff is filmed months in advance (it finishes filming late Mayish-early June) so yes whilst Eagles and Cox have been regulars with North Ballarat this season, they only started playing in June after filming on the series had completed. Because they’re also only with the coaches for maybe a maximum of 10-12 weeks, then sent back off to potentially rediscover bad habits in the proceeding 4 months between 2nd last ep and live final, you can see why there would be a resistance to the original criteria as by the time whatever team gets the winner into pre-season any fitness gains may’ve been eradicated so you’re starting from scratch with a borderline talent.
Pardon my ignorance, but does the winner choose which club they want to go to, or is it done by other means?

First season I believe they gave every club who was interested an opportunity to make a pitch to the winner, then he picked the club.

Yeah Gill just reiterated that. Matt Eagles is the winner, let’s see who he chooses…
Brisbane, Collingwood and GWS making a pitch. I’d go to Brisbane, he’d be a realistic chance of playing senior footy.
Collingwoods pitch was a joke, they’ll take any form of cheap publicity they can get. They’ll milk him for a couple of days of publicity then toss him on the scrap heap.
And GWS only bid to guarantee he got an AFL contract incase no one else bid.
Brisbane don’t need a priority pick now. Sorted.

When you’ve got chinny McGuire trapping off at light speed you don’t even need to pay for it.
Hope we get Cox's brother.I'd rookie Dan, he has come a long way since he was on my hype list in 2014. Make his bro feel welcome
