Yeah, I wouldn’t expect kids to know what a church is, let alone The Church.
I can see it. To me the church is a pretty obscure band, at least for someone of Ivan’s vintage. An 80’s kid might be different but it wasn’t a band I’d heard much of at all growing up.
Yeah, but Ivan was employed by Myer for his thorough music knowledge.
Not knowing who the Church are, would have seen him fired on the spot.
But in fairness, I knew exactly zero people who listened to The Church growing up, and I really only knew them from Unguarded Moment.
I think if you were doing the alternative/indie thing in the 90s, Under The Milky Way was unavoidable - always considered an all-time classic, Rage, JJJ etc.
Wasn’t just the indie stations… Milky Way very much crossed-over into the mainstream and was a staple on Dribble M (probably still is). Metropolis got a fair thrashing too.
If I had to hazard a guess Milky Way, Unguarded Moment, Almost With You and Metropolis would probably be their most well-known tracks.
Actually good point, although it was only when I heard it in Donnie Darko that I remember bothering to find out who sung it.
BIG NO
What’s Donnie Darko?
Jokes, jokes
It’s dead set weird what ‘the kids’ magpie choose from the eighties.
Two examples are,
Not Maneater, Not Private Eyes, in fact none of that…Dreams Come True by Hall and Oates.
Friggin’…Vienna by Billy Joel.
It’s about the 7th best Billy Joel song on that album, but it’s a staple for a certain generation.
Mad.
Yeah but I was a weirdo who listened to the BBC World service not jjj and only watched rage when I was off my head, I wasn’t taking in much of anything
And quite a big No for the song
Love this song…easiest Yes I’ve given in here for ages
As for all the conversation about The Church…their output from the 80s into the early 90s stands up with any Australian band from that era…they just weren’t pub rock enough for that era though.
6-4? i think
Just listened to The Colour of Spring (the album the above track came from) for the first time. What an excellent album…added straight to the playlist.
Thanks @bomber_girl for playing it.
Yes
Every home should have one…
In 1986, when I bought it, a mate who had very trad. music taste (Dire Straits, George Thurogood etc.) groaned and asked me what I was “listening to that shiit for?”
I must admit, it made me love it that little bit more…
Yep it’s a great listen, as is the “It’s My Life” album. I haven’t got around to listening to the others.
Going to change things up a bit, opera mixed with electronic. I’d be surprised if I get through here as this seems to be more of a rock domain, but I love electronic music. This lady can sing too.
Big YES
Don’t mind Schiller
