5 - ace of aces. Loved this tune and would listen again. Almost lost points for having his collar popped on a dress shirt (yes I’m this shallow)
4 - Preatures. Would listen again. Just had enough little interesting bits to it and loved the up tempo pace

I don’t have the technical nor the audiophile vocab to describe how common it was to have poorly recorded or micced drums in this particular decade. So weakly and compacted, particularly the ‘indie’ stuff. The snares are clipped and lack bite. So, what has been going on with the production of drumming in the past decade? Perhaps it’s just me because vocals aren’t what I listen out for, guitars only interest me to a point but rhythm section/drums add so little if not detract.
95% of people started consuming music through the earbuds supplied with their mobile phone. Music production favoured tinny and compressed sounds with no bass because that’s how it was going to be heard.

Shiitty hadphones like Beats (jesus they’re terrible… but for some unfathomable reason they somehow became a consumer staple) are so bass-heavy that the actual songs themselves don’t need any. Play any properly recorded/mixed/produced song from up to the early 00’s or so on Beats and it just about blows your eardrums out with bass.

Spectacular case of self-sabotage these guys! A radio-friendly (though somewhat slight beyond “the hits”) debut followed by several U-turns. This was far better than I expected, and is the sort of chewy left of centre doomy-sounding pop to be found on The Cure’s Head On The Door…

Definitely the hardest, some great tracks that I hadn’t heard, some songs from bands that I hadn’t given much notice to and a couple of guilty pleasures and of course as always, some tracks that are interesting and I’m the better for hearing them. So hard to get down to 5 and harder to order them.
Thanks again for @swoodley for organising it and I’m glad for this round as i thought it had finished last round so this was just a bonus

The 2010’s was the era I took a step back from music. It wasn’t because I had anything against the music of the time (as this round shows, it’s an interesting decade) I just moved on to other things. From 2013 onwards I had essentially checked out, and it wasn’t until DJ King came up that I remembered just how much I loved music, and that i actually missed it.
