@Avanderscreamer
Where do I start? Firstly, thanks again for running this, alway fun.
Pleased to make the final and extra pleased with my 2 songs… 9 out of 10 votes from Mr Jez which is my measure of my selections quality.
I offered up and thought about genres which pushed the limits of genres “bands who played 924 Gillman in California” which while not a genre would have produced a universe of west coast punk to choose from…
Straight core was rejected as too obscure… I guess so… but with a final of pill poppin’ dance music it would have made a great contrast.
I settled on pre 2000 west coast rap… and the song selected was from 2001!!! So no votes for you even though the song was great.
I got “film score” which I confused for soundtrack and loved the journey from The Graduate and Simon & Garfunkel to Slayer and Ice T on Judgement Night… but no… it’s the ■■■■■■■ music bit… not my strong suit and was largely a rush job to the first film I could think of that had music that really cranked…
For the votes… do I go with the songs I like… but mostly easy genres… or balance it out with the toughness of the task… I largely went with the second option.
5 votes Joelistics - Days (Hip Hop) great song. A genre I need to explore further
4 votes Pale Saints - Sight of You (Shoegaze) nothing says Brit more than this ugly ■■■■■ head and the irony of “sight of you makes me blue” being sung by the ugliest ■■■■ ever is magical. Great song, easy genre though
3 votes Allan Sherman - Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (Novelty Music) just because I feel sorry for you. I would have gone with weird Al
2 votes Burial & Four Tet - Nova (Dubstep)
I know fuckall about it, but liked the song. Is it representative… who the ■■■■ knows
1 vote The Cure - The Baby Screams (New Wave) great song, easy genre. Must have been a pleasure trying to narrow it down
Thank you again for running this thing. I know it is like some weird bdsm fetish thing that you enjoy, so feel free to run another one whenever you want!!
Well there you have it folks…a lengthy summary of Avander’s thought processes throughout the comp.
But will the big controversy be Avander bypassing Jez’s song because he said it was from 2001. BDJ Pty Ltd Spc Dfc Management diligently checked the credentials of the track prior to approving and found that it was released in 1999…thus meeting the requirements specified ( Alphabet Aerobics - Wikipedia )
Avander’s own comments show that he thought it was a great track!!!
Anyway, moving on from there the 5 votes were given to ivan, thus doubling his total votes in one hit (now on 10). 4 to Chewy with one of the better backhanded compliments you could hope to see.
Another 3 for Crazy…is he going to win the comp based on just about everyone feeling sorry for him??? He moves to 26 and outright 2nd
2 for Split and 1 for swoodley rounded out Avander’s votes.
