The Reigning Dj King (Mk XV) is...@chewy_boy...on victory lap number three after another win in Blonde DJ (Part 1)

@Koala

5 Allan Sherman - Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (Novelty Music)
4 Technotronic - Pump Up The Jam (House Music)
3 Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run) - Introduction Theme (Film Score)
2 The KLF - Last Train To Trancentral (EDM)
1 deadmau5 feat. Chris James - The Veldt (Artists who wear masks)

this has been fun!

Koala’s opening votes should bring a smile to Crazy’s face as he picks up the 5 votes, 4 to Technotronic gets hambo off the mark, 3 more for Avander, 2 more for Strewth and cummy maintains his record of getting at least one vote from every player so far.

Chewy, Ivan and tinhill are yet to open their accounts

It’s dead exciting, this…

Thanks Swoods, and good luck in this final. Brilliant idea, you’ve just opened a new door for future comps!

5 Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run) - Introduction Theme
(insert Banderas gif… Congratulations on winning Blond DJ)

4 Egyptian Lover - Egypt Egypt
(Nailed the genre, chose a classic from it, went the all important 12” version)

3 Pale Saints - Sight of You
(A genre I love but a band I’ve never looked into - and it was great!)

2 Technotronic - Pump Up The Jam
(Cunk )

1 Allan Sherman - Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh
(You poor bastard)

Anyone would think that Jez knew what was going on as he gives votes to both Chewy and tinhill to break their ducks while being the first voter to overlook cummy’s entry.

The 5 votes though went to Avander who takes a share of 2nd place with 12 votes. 4 to tinhill Egyptian entry, 3 to Chewy shoegazing entry, 2 more for hambo and another vote for Crazy.

@ivan

Boy my film score nomination may well back fire on me her.

5 - Lol Rennt - easy 5. i listened to the fark out of this on release. it has been a long time since i’d listened. What a banger. well played to the DJ

4 - Burial & Four Tet - takes a while to grow into something that really holds your attention but it does get there

3 - Pale Saints - Sight of You (Shoegaze) - never heard the term shoegaze before but as big fan of sonic youth who i guess sort of grandfathered this sound i can get behind it, some nice layers here.

2 - Blackalicious - Alphabet Aerobics - pretty standard fair but the tempo ramping gives it something a bit extra

1 - Allan Sherman - Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh - sympathy vote for the dj burdened with “novelty”

thanks for running a great show!

Is ivan right…has he given Avander the genre to succeed as he picks up another 5 votes to take the led on 17. 4 for Split moves him to 11, 3 more for Chewy, another 2 Jez gets him to double figures (10) and yet another 1 vote for Crazy who also moves into double figures on 11

Thought PP2 was going to street this in, having been gifted the softest genre of them all…

@Timryuken

Loved the idea for this round but ■■■■ me some of the song choices here left me scratching my head, which has since gotten balder. If I ran half this tripe through a Bluetooth speaker I’d be standing in the reception of the nearest Comfort Inn.

That being said:

5 The Cure - Baby Screams

Not a huge Cure man but I appreciated the vibe, and felt it was the best track of the lot. Having real instruments got it there in the end.

4 Deadmau5 - The Veldt

Certainly not my kind of electronic music but an extremely inoffensive choice, quite liked it. The theme of the song is nailed by the vibe so fair play to the artist.

3 Blackalicious - Alphabet Aerobics

Great idea for a song and executed with skill. Have seen a wizard perform this before.

2 Technotronic - Pump up the Jam

Again, you won’t see me driving around with this ■■■■ on, but it’s a track that on listening to it properly, I can see why it had its moment. The vintage of it suits my current tastes. Would’ve been a lot of sweaty youngens clambering over each other in the 80s to this one, and I’m sure it brings back fond memories for many of the participants here. If only the women shaved back then.

1 Custard - Pack Yr Suitcases

A missed opportunity for the pub rock genre but has actual instruments, is somewhat catchy and has a dose of Aussie humour thrown in. Eked out Burial For Tet on that basis.

So to me that was the top 5 in a pretty interesting set that didn’t really hit it out of the park for me. Some of the choices were a little baffling to me.

KLF - seriously a video with ■■■■■■■ twats pretending to play guitars to a dance song should never garner a vote in this comp. And they weren’t even soloing it was just ■■■■■■ looking strumming. This was when humanity began to peak and started sliding into the mire - the actual moment captured on film.

Special mention to Lola Rennt - I’ve not heard that soundtrack before, but I assume it’s played over the moment Jeffrey Dharmer starts drilling some poor bastards skull. If so, they nailed it and I should have given it a vote.

Can’t wait for the next comp, thanks again for hosting Swood.

I’d forgotten that Timryuken is right up there with the best when it comes to writing a BDJ rant but I soon remembered as I read through his latest effort.

Not only that, but he is clearly a man of discerning taste as he gave 5 votes to The Cure to move swoodley up to 14. Cummy’s temporary drought is over as he gets another 4 to reclaim the lead on 19.

3 for Jez who is gaining some traction recently and he is up to 13, 2 for hambo takes him to 8 and 1 to PP2 gives him his first votes since he got the top votes in the first set of votes…he moves to 6.

Song 11 run Lola … so many film scores and you pick this … John Williams John Barry Hans Zimmer all say hello but I like the movie so 1 vote
Song 12 just no nothing more I can say

Thank you for once again running a great comp !

A minor hiccup here as HOGALF’s notes showed two set of three votes so a quick PM was sent back to him:

You have two sets of three votes there???

Song 3 hello muddah novelty 3 votes
Song 8 cure new wave … 3 votes but is it really goth?

Which garnered this response:

Hello muddah 4 votes can’t read my notes lol

So after that little exchange back to the votes…5 for tinhill gets him to 9, another 4 for Crazy’s novelty entry takes him to 14, 3 to swoodley moves him up to 17, 2 more for PP2 and another vote for Avander which moves him to 18 and one off the lead.

Are swoodley’s handed out in the final round…?

If they’re earned…then yes they are.

@Paul_Peos

Hi Mr S Woodley

Here’s the votes for the final.

I tried to give some weight to the theme, as some DJs were clearly at a disadvantage. I didn’t end up doing that, but I tried.

5 - Blackalicious - Alphabet Aerobics (West Coast Rap Pre 2000)

4 - The Cure - The Baby Screams (New Wave)

3 - Technotronic - Pump Up The Jam (House Music)

2 - Joelistics - Days (Hip Hop)

1 - Custard - Pack Yr Suitcases (90s Australian Rock)

I realise that novelty song is a poisoned chalice, and a guarantee that you won’t win, but WTF was that track? My lord!

Cheers again for running this, mate.

Ah, the synergy that seems to occur between Peos and Jez is a bit weird sometimes and here it is again as Jez gets the 5 votes to move to 18. 4 more for The Cure gets swoodley to 21 and the lead!!!

3 to Technotronic gets hambo into double figures, 2 for Joelistics sees ivan finally break through for his first votes and PP2 gets the 1 vote.

Monster rant from @Timryuken there!.. :grinning:

Some of those genres are graveyards. Thought many of the electric choices were stale.

Hope Jez is in the mix with his choice. CB will get a lot of pity one votes

@Klawdy

Firstly, well done Grizzly Adams on another sensational comp. The themes have kept it fresh. Especially the final, which has been thoroughly entertaining. Super hard to vote. But here goes.

5 - The KLF. Now, I could go into a HOGALF EDM rant, but I’ve decided to embrace the laymen’s definition. Is it electronic? Yes. Is it dance music? Yes. And is it a banga? Hell yeah.

4 - Lola Rennt. Not a bad genre (theme). Plenty of bad tracks were possible though. Thankfully, this isn’t. And from a great movie also.

3 - Allan Sherman. I’ve got it higher than it probably should be due to the difficulty factor. Plus it had nostalgic value from my childhood.

2 - Deadmau5. Not the rats greatest track, but still good enough to score votes.

1 - Technotronic. Philomena Cunk approves.

Now, Burial & Four Tet. Awesome track. But not dubstep. Well, not what I’d call even close to dubstep. I’d be interested to see where the approval came from.

Finally, Egyptian Lover……I’m actually lost for words. I’ll leave it at that.

Cheers knackers.

Klawdy shakes things up…5 to the KLF moves Strewth to 17 but it’s the 4 votes to Lola Rennt that take Avander back to the lead on 22…3 more for Crazy’s song takes him to 17 whilst 2 for cummy takes him to 21 and =2nd. Final vote goes to hambo which moves him to 12.

@cummy_scant

Ok that was an abomination of a setlist, some devious genre selections by the final round DJs.

5 votes - blackalicious - alphabet aerobics - an absolute masterpiece of wordplay.

4 votes - hello muddah hello fadduh - I asked for novelty and I got a classic novelty, can’t not give it votes. For years I thought it was just a Simpsons bit until only a few years ago gearing this original.

3 votes - joelistics - days - nice Aussie hip hop, good choice of genre and song.

2 votes - pale saints - sight of you. Not a bad little melody, wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it.

1 vote - custard pack yr suitcases - honestly I just had to go one of the remaining artists that wasn’t electronic music.

More changes at the top as Jez gets top votes here to move to 23 and the outright lead. Crazy gets 4 to move into a 3 way tie for 3rd on 21 (with cummy & swoodley…Avander is on 22 in 2nd). 3 votes to Ivan, 2 to Chewy and another 1 for PP2.

@Split_Infinity

FINAL ROUND VOTES
Major prisoner’s dilemma vibes with this round where in this case I was the dumbass who chose to share while my opposite number chose to steal and walked away with the genre riches.

5 votes Blackalicious - Alphabet Aerobics
The only song that I can say I really actively enjoyed here + didn’t overstay its welcome at 2:14
4 votes Pale Saints - Sight of You
Wasn’t familiar with the song and I thought it was pretty good
3 votes The Cure - The Baby Screams
2 votes Allan Sherman - Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh
1 vote Egyptian Lover - Egypt Egypt
Went through a lot listening to this one… the intro I wasn’t feeling great about, then it got into a groove for me and then the outro with all the panting was truly unhinged (not in a good way). Worth a vote.

And that’s another 5 votes for Jez to take him to 28 (and a 4 vote lead). 4 to Chewy, 3 to swoodley (moves him to 24 and outright 2nd), 2 more for Crazy (now 23 and outright 3rd) and 1 to tinhill which gets him into double figures on 10.

@Avanderscreamer

Where do I start? Firstly, thanks again for running this, alway fun.

Pleased to make the final and extra pleased with my 2 songs… 9 out of 10 votes from Mr Jez which is my measure of my selections quality.

I offered up and thought about genres which pushed the limits of genres “bands who played 924 Gillman in California” which while not a genre would have produced a universe of west coast punk to choose from…

Straight core was rejected as too obscure… I guess so… but with a final of pill poppin’ dance music it would have made a great contrast.

I settled on pre 2000 west coast rap… and the song selected was from 2001!!! So no votes for you even though the song was great.

I got “film score” which I confused for soundtrack and loved the journey from The Graduate and Simon & Garfunkel to Slayer and Ice T on Judgement Night… but no… it’s the ■■■■■■■ music bit… not my strong suit and was largely a rush job to the first film I could think of that had music that really cranked…

For the votes… do I go with the songs I like… but mostly easy genres… or balance it out with the toughness of the task… I largely went with the second option.

5 votes Joelistics - Days (Hip Hop) great song. A genre I need to explore further

4 votes Pale Saints - Sight of You (Shoegaze) nothing says Brit more than this ugly ■■■■■ head and the irony of “sight of you makes me blue” being sung by the ugliest ■■■■ ever is magical. Great song, easy genre though

3 votes Allan Sherman - Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (Novelty Music) just because I feel sorry for you. I would have gone with weird Al

2 votes Burial & Four Tet - Nova (Dubstep)
I know fuckall about it, but liked the song. Is it representative… who the ■■■■ knows

1 vote The Cure - The Baby Screams (New Wave) great song, easy genre. Must have been a pleasure trying to narrow it down

Thank you again for running this thing. I know it is like some weird bdsm fetish thing that you enjoy, so feel free to run another one whenever you want!!

Well there you have it folks…a lengthy summary of Avander’s thought processes throughout the comp.

But will the big controversy be Avander bypassing Jez’s song because he said it was from 2001. BDJ Pty Ltd Spc Dfc Management diligently checked the credentials of the track prior to approving and found that it was released in 1999…thus meeting the requirements specified ( Alphabet Aerobics - Wikipedia )

Avander’s own comments show that he thought it was a great track!!!

Anyway, moving on from there the 5 votes were given to ivan, thus doubling his total votes in one hit (now on 10). 4 to Chewy with one of the better backhanded compliments you could hope to see.

Another 3 for Crazy…is he going to win the comp based on just about everyone feeling sorry for him??? He moves to 26 and outright 2nd

2 for Split and 1 for swoodley rounded out Avander’s votes.
