Having listened through a handful of best albums of 2023 lists, I’m convinced producers/mix engineers are trying to destroy music.
It’s not the music… it’s the same 12 notes it’s ever been. It’s not a shortage of talented musicians… there will always be people wanting to play. It’s not a lack of access to recording facilites… anyone with a farking laptop these days can record themselves.
It’s firmly down to the engineers and producers. The sheer deluge of post-production applied to nearly everything is strangling the life out of it.
