Hell yes!!
A sax playing, stalking, standover merchant…that’s a Baker nightmare right there.
Yes
Congrats @chewy_boy now the GOAT.
THANKS @frosty for running the comp, lots of work I hear and compound that with illness, mighty effort.
Chewy is the GOAT!
Thanks Frosty, wasn’t expecting a blonde, but it delivered, thoroughly enjoyed listening to a whole bunch of stuff I haven’t heard before. Well done to everyone in selecting good stuff.

If we say the king has been dethroned three times will he reappear?
You got my bonus point. Isn’t that enough?
I have to admit, I’ve been a bit distracted. Between 12hr shifts and getting myself and my Mum to Adelaide was the priority this week.
I did go back and have another listen and I’m still comfortable with the way I voted.
Now, @tinhillterror. Drill rap? If I couldn’t get drum n bass past the gatekeeper, there’s no way drill rap was sneaking in.
I shook 9 votes out of PP2 during the lead-up rounds, then he let me down when I needed him most… ![]()
Sorry, I was in Brisbane and offline from Friday and missed all the action
Big congratulations to @chewy_boy, well played!
Thanks @frosty for the excellently organized comp!
@swoodley Shaboozey!
PS Better Hell was a banger. @wimmera1 wouldn’t know a good song if it mugged him in the street

That is a very harsh sledge.
Makes me want to listen to it again to see if it’s accurate, but I strongly suspect it is.
Suddenly has internet
Timryuken
Okay mate, votes for the final as follows:
5 Mdou Moctar - Sousoume Tamacheq
This track really did it for me. I put it down to listening to a lot of Weather Report/Joe Zawinul over the years, always appreciate something with that kind of vibe. The hate for sax on Blitz hurts my feelings because Wayne Shorter was incredible with Weather Report (just as an aside).
——————-
@Timryuken i meant to get back to this. I had never heard of Weather Report till a week ago and somehow have come across them 3 times: in an old Billboard mag I was looking at online, on a music forum, and your comment here.
I went to Discogs to look up their stuff, and came across the greatest band photo I’ve ever seen:

I’m choosing to ignore the rest of your comment as

Have a victory lap yes @chewy_boy. And well done on figuring out the formula to BDJ.
That shirt in the right. Flowers? Eyes? Or…?
I just love how completely different the five guys are.
And the chest hair.
Mate they are one of the all time great Jazz Fusion bands.
My favourite albums would probably be Mysterious Traveller and Heavy Weather (the latter being their most popular release), but there’s gold through the whole catalogue of albums.
Port of Entry on Night Passage album (recorded live in front of a studio audience) has possibly the most silky yet attacking jazz bass solo of all time (Jaco is revered as one of the all time greats, and his playing style has been copied so much).
The Dara Factor tracks on the self titled album later on are really cool jams where you can hear everybody feeding off one another and improving together.
If you’re at all into jazz it’s essential to check them out. They would be my favourite band. Play ‘A Remark You Made’ at my funeral.
And Wayne Shorter on sax. Amazing. Changed my view on the instrument.
Thanks for the write up. Not sure it’d be my thing but I’ll give it a go. I’ve definitely heard of Jaco.
Jaco Pastorious from the Weather Report is regarded as quite possibly the greatest bass player of all time.
And rightly so. I’ve played for a long time and his stuff is bloody hard to play, and he did it on a fretless with near perfect intonation. He was a freak.
Honestly, it’s like Derek Smalls never existed for you guys.
