Occasionally, yes. More often than not though, it ends up with me sitting through a dozen farking awful songs with farking awful production/mixing and giving up.
Where? Bandcamp searches, Youtube searches, music websites (e.g. Drowned In Sound, NME, Uncut, a couple of Facebook groups I’m in), those “50 albums from this year that you need to listen to” lists (like the one @frosty posted here).
The most recent thing I liked was a band called Lo Moon. They’re few and far between though.
I think perhaps the biggest blows were @JohnRain and @Kira leaving the threads, then everyone started just posting and interacting less, myself included I guess… although I’ve had two kids since 2020 so my time has drained. We used to get to 10 votes easily and quickly, now it’s a struggle to get to 7.
I’ve always thought the thread needed an off-season, ideally should be three or four months of no music or posts, then come back fresh. Perhaps a ladder or comp element in the “on” season too as the competition aspect died once Kira (?) hit like 40/50+ songs and made it impossible for anyone to ever get close to that again…Then throw in some Blonde DJ comps as that is always fun.
I was wondering as you clearly don’t do Triple J and well, commercial radio is a no go. It would be awfully boring if you were limited to all of the old stuff.
No, didn’t dig the effect of the vocal and it was all just a bit neither here nor there, like am I supposed to dance to it, or be buying an overpriced jacket I’m never gonna wear more than twice, or be taking some selfies in a field of flowers?
