Footloose has entered the building…
Location??
You do not want this man…
(…well yeah…there is some cutie pies…but fark…GREASE MEGA MIX!!!)
I know this situation well.
From my experience, it’s more fun to just let go and ‘go with it’ than it is to sulk angrily in the corner.
Beatles mega mix incoming
Oh what a night…
Hands
Touchin’ hands
Reachin’ out
Touching me, touchin’ you
Oh you better knock, knock
On wood, baby
Tin roof…rusted…
I couldn’t ask for another…
No I couldn’t ask for another.
Drunken Nurse’s… Yes
Just my luck.
All the ones here are sober.
The original Rectal Tubes lineup was all nurses formed for a Royal Melb Hospital Christmas party
“Cos we were born, born, born…
Born to be alive!”
As someone who enjoys dancing as much as having a filling done, I read your messages Doggy, and felt your pain…
Look it was a great night and I love seeing Mrs Dogga enjoy herself. She deserves it. Had some good music/record/guitar chats to a few blokes there, so good night all round.
It just blows my mind the intense physical and psychological reaction The Grease Mega Mix can have on a large group of drunk women. Its astonishing. Its something Ive witnessed countless times in my life and it stuns me every time.
I wonder if it is a uniquely Australian thing. Do other countries have the Grease Mega Mix? I was in the States years ago and did a lot of pub/bar hopping but I dont recall hearing it.
So you went all the way to the States in the hope of hearing the Grease Mega-Mix?
I did not see that coming?
Wiki:
The megamix topped the charts of Australia and Spain and became a top-five hit in Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, and the United Kingdom.
Not Greece, unfortunately.
A true national shame.
So @Doggatron I had a similar experience on Saturday night…
Was at my local drinking hole, nice night so we were outside plus a function happening inside. No speakers outside but we had the portable Bluetooth speaker. Our table and the two closest tables ranged from 20 year olds to 60 year olds so I just had some cruisey songs on at a background music level. Maybe played for 30 mins, people are bopping and swaying in between conversation.
A “friend” of ours on our table wasn’t too pleased as he didn’t know any of the songs and I guess had a point to prove to all patrons outside that we’re playing music. He leaves and comes back with his iPad from his car. Now he used to be “dj” from the 80s 90s. I’ll give him credit his old equipment is pretty cool and very loud. So he’s come back and commented he wants songs everyone knows and can sing to. I didn’t budge, cbf picking songs as I’m happy chatting… song or two later he wants to take control. Happy to oblige.
Now I can’t tell you exactly what was played for the next 20 minutes but the volume doubled a comment about “this is how you entertain / start a party”. I do recall a remixed it’s raining men, stars on 45 and the rest of them was these weird doof doof remixes that you come across on a streaming platform that are similar to them karaoke cover ones.
Now I enjoy watching someone implode and crash and burn but my partner couldn’t stand another minute and took over. She schooled him with her selections and banter which was even funnier.
Later on in the night a few people positively commented on some riders of the storm instrumental remix she played and this “dj” complexed commented “how can you like a song without words?”
It was quite extraordinary his lack of musical knowledge but after chatting to him he was a purely top 40 dj, but I’m assuming he kept getting gigs came down to the gear. Outcome, in that 15-30 mins had our table “going for a toilet break” and lost well over 50% of the patrons outside. I can play some ludicrous tunes but boy that was another level.
Man, its a weird and personal thing. And there is no right or wrong. Some people just do not like hearing music theyve never heard before. They will almost appear personally offended by it. I can not grasp this. But I shan’t judge. I understand and have seen many people getting to a certain age where they just seem to stop listening to new stuff (whether it be old and undiscovered or new and unreleased). And thats fine. Whatever makes them happy. Music is a gift and the beauty is most certainly in the eye of the beholder. But nothing excites me more than hearing something great that Ive never heard before.
I think I understand why some people dont like instrumental music. Now, this is a complete generalisation and there are always exceptions, but Its my theory and Im sticking with it: I feel music is such a personal experience, a lot of it comes down to what the listener can relate to on some level. If the listener does not play an instrument, they are going to relate to the human voice the most. Thus, if they do not play an instrument, they will relate less, therefore will not usually like or enjoy purely instrumental (sans vocals) music. For people who can express themselves emotionally other than talking, ie guitar, piano or whatever, they will find the same level of emotional connection through purely instrumental music.
I really have no idea what Im talking about. Ive been drinking muskat.
