I like the fact that he was trying different ideas out during this period. I’ve heard a million Paul Kelly songs that sound similar to each other, this one is a refreshing change. Little Kings is another different one where he sings in a falsetto voice.
He released a hillbilly album and a…sort of…dance album at the same time as this, too.
Prof Ratbaggy… don’t forget the sonnets either. We all love diversity but quality needs a go now and then too.

I’m not going in to bat for this track.
But I’d have thought the vocal from guys like Waits, Cave, Kelly, Dylan and so on were the least of anyone’s concern.
