I met Hugh a few years ago, a lovely guy and always happy to talk Essendon. My cousin from the UK, a new Dons supporter to boot, was in the conversation too, and was gobsmacked to be talking to a legend of the club.
My cousin had only bought an Essendon guernsey that week, and brought it out for Hugh to sign. My cousin loved Dustin Fletcher, so he had his number 31 on the back… which in a wonderful moment of coincidence, just so happened to be Hugh’s number.
